I'm running my first Congress of Gamers convention in Tysons Corner, VA (USA) the last weekend in August, and want to reach out to the many war gamers in that area. One of the Westin's rooms I've rented is a really elegant board room with a HUGE table. What games would be likely to attract attendance by war gamers and make the best use of this table?

Thanks for the recommendations!

Candidates so far (BOLD items are ones I think may best meet the War theme, "Big Ass" table filling, and lots-of-players criteria):

7 Ages

Anachrony with Anachrony: Exosuit Commander Pack and Pioneers of Lost Earth Expansion

Arkham Horror with an Expansion or two

Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition

Axis & Allies Europe 1940 and Axis & Allies Pacific 1940 combined worldmap https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/61692/axis-allies-europe... https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/55829/axis-allies-pacifi...

Case Blue https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/29285/case-blue (only two players)

Any miniatures game would fill a large table easily. Sample list.

Case Blue.

Though the table probably isn't large enough.

GMT East Front Series. Like Case Blue, the table may not be big enough.

I've gamed on big board-room tables before. Talk about comfy chairs! But really when you are talking about tables that big you might be better off running two maybe even three games on it. If not that many people show up, then fine, spread out your most massive game, but if you get a crowd that's a lot of real estate to give up to 3-5 players.

Good point. I had assumed that any "big ass" games would involve many (paying...) players. I think I need to make sure that's the case!

No board game can compete for table space with naval miniatures of any Era.

Assuming you want a board game, a fully decked out copy of Scythe with the board extension looks mighty good on a big table.

Shadows of Brimstone can take up a ton of table space, especially if you've got both core sets & lots of expansions.

(And there's lots to look at, there.)

I'll second Firefly: The Game with all expansions. That thing requires an enormous amount of space. Plus it's an awesome game. Plus, with all expansions you can accommodate 8 players, assuming there will be lots of people sitting at that lots of table.

A few that come to mind:

Arkham Horror with an Expansion or two

Anachrony with Anachrony: Exosuit Commander Pack and Pioneers of Lost Earth Expansion

Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition

(and those are just the ones I can think of that start with the Letter A)

This was posted by someone here on BGG (sorry, but I can't remember who!) and I think this World in Flames takes the cake for table filling monstrosity.

And a shot of someone's game of Case Blue up and running!

I concur with the Memoir '44 D-Day Invasion maps (all 6), or Arkham Horror with any one expansion.
