Actually, an attempt to point out the absurdity of a new proposed anti-abortion law in Texas.

Got to love those tough Texas chicks.

If you could look at the face and heartbeat of a sperm and potentially come to the realization that you're making a terrible mistake, then I'm sure this would be equivalent.

Oh the guilt strategy. I assume you are personally going to pay for the upbringing of all children products
designed because of pressure on women?

On a serious note:

I think these kind of bills that will never pass being introduced as political stunts are really dumb. (on both sides)

The fact that her bill specifically allows for vasectomy undermines it's call against masturbation.

IMO, this is a bad approach. Leave the satire to comedians. This will only hurt any real legislation she tries to pass.

In my opinion, it is less ridiculous than the proposed law she is countering with her anti-masturbation bill. A stunt it may be, but she makes a serious point: why should only women be subject to legislation that requires an unnecessary invasive procedure?

See this is another weird Christian take. The problem with Onan was not that he "wasted seed" but that he publicly took on a sacred obligation, pretended to do what was needed to fulfill that obligation, and in fact secretly refused to do it. There are other sources Jews regard as concerning waste of semen but Onan is not one of them by most opinions and those that do think it is admit it is not literally so.

A French comedian once - roughly - said "I will stop doing politics the day the politicians stop doing humour".

Sometimes it's better to just laugh at the stupid joke instead of trying to explain what's behind it.

I'm guessing the opposition will abstain lest the other members see how hairy their palms are. I guess they could vote in writing but that is also complicated due to blindness. Rosie Palm and her five sisters did vote NAY!

Sometimes it's better to just laugh at the stupid joke instead of trying to explain what's behind it.

On the contrary, Texas legislator Jessica Farrar does satirist Jonathan Swift (of "Gulliver's Travels" fame) proud with her own modest proposal fining men $100.00 for each masturbation event because it deftly parodies real legislation that restricts women's access to health care and abortions.

On the other (Ahem!) hand, there have been real anti-masturbation-law news stories over the past decade.

> Excerpts from the October 9, 2009 Digital Journal news story by Carol Forsloff entitled:

Alabama Supreme Court Upholds Anti-Masturbation Law

The Alabama Supreme Court has upheld a state statute prohibiting masturbation by artificial means. But if the state can protect the right of its citizens to own guns as an important liberty, how is it that devices for masturbation are prohibited?

Alabama considers unlawful the sale of “any device designed—primarily for the stimulation of human genital organs.” The recent decision of the Supreme Court underlines the fact that in a number of states, regulation of sexual activities sometimes outweighs regulation of guns.

Arizona is a state that makes adultery a Class 3 misdemeanor. Whether or not people are actually hauled into court isn’t detailed, but the law clearly states that adultery is against the law. On the other hand the state has enacted two new laws actually loosening restrictions on possession of guns according to the Daily Kos. The first one permits gun owners to carry their firearms into bars and restaurants. The second law allows students at the University of Arizona to carry firearms in their cars without requiring them to have concealed weapons permits. This is just one example of how a state regulates sex while relaxing restrictions on guns. But there are other states that that also regulate sex, although there are variations on these regulations.

In the District of Columbia profane and obscene language is against the law. Massachusetts, a state considered by some of be enlightened in many ways, has strict moral codes of its own, loosely defined, for example, as “dissemination or possession of obscene matter: imprisonment not more than 5 years or fine not more than $10,000; Unnatural and lascivious acts: felony, fine of not more than $1,000 or imprisonment not more than 5 years. The specific of what constitutes obscenity or an unnatural act is left unspecified. One of Wisconsin’s statute 944.17 lists “Sexual Gratification: Class A Misdemeanor.”

While this is isn’t described in the statute, could it potentially mean masturbation? Those who want more information on the specifics of the law with respect to sexual regulation within the several states can read more about it at the following link: http://law.jrank.org/pages/11812/Prohibited-Consensual-Sexua...

I decided to check the Louisiana statute with respect to sexual behavior and regulations pertaining specifically to masturbation. Until 2007 it was illegal to sell sex “toys” or mechanical devices for masturbation or sexual gratification. The Louisiana statute was struck down by the state court according to Fortune magazine in an article written in 2008 which you can read at the following link: http://fortune.com/2008/02/14/a-valentines-gift-vibrator-sal...

Small, vibrators in a variety of colors are displayed on a shelf in the pharmaceutical area at the local Walgreen's drug store in Natchitoches, Louisiana. I asked one of the local clerks about the sales of these devices and whether public reaction has been positive or negative since introduced. The clerk, unwilling to disclose her name, blushed a bit, and declared she hadn’t really kept track but had seen a few ladies buy them.

So, since it appears that in the small town of Natchitoches that there are some women who have elected to take advantage of the law that allows freedom of choice to use a vibrator for sexual satisfaction through masturbation without fear of penalty, those hands that can be trained to shoot a gun, protected by the Second Amendment, can also use a mechanical device for sexual self-stimulation or masturbation with the same degree of liberty in the State of Louisiana.

In 2004, Ted Cruz tried to defend a Texas law banning the sale and promotion of dildos and artificial vaginas on the basis that ....

Cruz's anti-masturbation crusade failed, but his efforts nonetheless just went to show that the right to stimulate one's own genitals isn’t to be taken for granted.
