It's been talked about in 2015 and shown on a smaller boardgame fair but I cannot seem to find any substantial news. Does anyone know what happened to it?

My bad, I really should have checked Salsa when looking for the map.
Thank you!

The Hispania map is in Salsa, but the Portugal map was a custom affair for a Portuguese convention event: LeiriaCon. It has not been slated for commercial release.

Oh, so rather by mere chance there was more to my question than I supposed - do you happen to know whether or not there are plans for this map to be published?

No, it was made clear that PD-Verlag had no intention to release the Portugal map for retail distribution.

I think the Baltic Sea would be really interesting. Like a map that is opposite of the Germany map.

Look at all those ports.

I don't think the Roman Empire ever got quite that far north.

Good point.
It didn't. There's proof of roman ships exploring the Baltic Seas, but the Empire never had any permanent camp/colony/port on the northern coast of current Germany (nowhere on this map, in fact)

Ooh a little higher, now a bit to the left, a little more, a little more, just a bit more. Oooh yes, that's the spot!

Mars is pretty hot right now, it could happen!

You know, I've seen a bunch of faux Roman empires in space (like in Red Rising) but I don't think I've seen an SF story about the actual Roman empire in space.

Not quite the thing, however: A.E.Van Vogt Empire of the Atom (1957), plot derived largely from Robert Graves' I Claudius(1934) and Claudius the God (1935).
