1st edition is not played too often online anymore. But there is a nice online client, where people play the 2nd edition.https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtLN1dNc0SyedEx...
People will normally find players on the WOTR facebook site.

Fangorn B is the latest version. It is the one normally used now. But, Elrond is more expanded(As in it has the Battle games from Battle of third age, and Twilight). Or you could play 1st edition.

.jar should be a single file not a folder, sounds like you have unzipped the jar file.

ok I downloaded the Fangorn zip
opened it up into a location.
the last file is WOTR-Fangorn JAR file
when I double click it a jar opener opens it to a whole list of files. not an execute file anywhere?

ok the zip file should be unzipped first (I assume this is what you mean when you say opened).

If double-clicking is opening a list of files, then you have the wrong action assigned to double-click as a default. Instead try right-clicking and open with menu, then select the java ... binary (windows assumed).

ok got the java .. binary associated but when I open the jar file all I get is a very brief flash of something opening that goes away. I must have something still screwed up.

Some people seem to get that problem, not sure why. Try running it from a command prompt.

Assuming windows. Click on the windows button,, type cmd and open the command window. Navigate to your install directory. Then type:

java -jar WOTR-Fangorn.jar
