It should be clarified this variant was thought up of with solo play in mind; however, there is no reason why it couldn't be used in a multiplayer game.

The monster encounters could use some tweaking. Certain monsters should favor certain forms of combat. The system requires a D20 and a D10 and uses the chart below for determining what card the monster should draw.

Troll.........1-8....9-16......17-20
Golem......1-7....8-14......15-20
Demom....1-6....7-13......14-20

Roll a D20 and the monster picks according to the roll. Combat is still very random, but now the monster encounters aren't all the same.

The D10 is optional. The average D10 has the range 0-9. If you are going to use the D10, treat the ranges as follows: Melee (1-3), Ranged (4-6), Magic (7-9) and 0 is wild. Treat it as whatever you want it to be for the particular matchup; however, it must be assigned prior to being rolled. If it is not assigned, it is simply treated as a reroll.

Using the data from the chart, players should be able to assign to the 0 whatever value that they like.
