I'm planning on spending part of my tax return on some new games. Already have a couple picked out, but I'm having difficulty deciding on the last one.

I think I want a Civ-Building game--Through The Address looks pretty interesting, as do a few others. However...

My family (my only consistent group) dislikes games that are two or more hours long, and I don't want to drop money on a game I probably won't play more than once or twice a year.

Any suggestions? Preferably something heavier than 7 Wonders, but still fits within 90-115 minutes. Working well for two players would be a huge plus, but not necessary.

Thanks folks.

The Golden Ages
Easy rules, short playtime (90' in 4p), short turns, nice combat system, quite interactive, with a nice replayability.
Works well in 2p, though I find that in 3+ there is more interaction.

The Golden Ages along with its Cults & Culture expansion is the first thing that comes to mind. Base game plays in under 60 minutes on 2 players, but the expansion adds a lot thematically - the base game can feel a bit dry, but with the expansion, to me, this feels like a real Civ game, and still plays in about 90 minutes.

Antike II or its 2-player version Antike Duellum are also good options, with building up an economy, researching tech, and conflict, all in a fairly compact and short package.

Maybe Patchistory as well? I haven't played my copy of it yet, but it's supposed to be 60-120 minutes, depending on player count.

Another one I haven't tried is Guns & Steel - A Civilization Card Game, but from reviews of the previous version of it (Guns & Steel + Renaissance), it sounds like a good short compact civilization card game.

It's a very Euro'y civ game but if that floats your boat I second this recommendation. I think it's a nice elegant quick civ game, a rare bird.

Smaller on, but The Flow of History would fit the bill. I got a copy at Essen but I think the BGG store was selling it now.
