Does anyone else wish the Playmat board upgrade was just a larger board and not a play mat? I want a board that will fit in the box, not a separate item I have to pull out every time I want to play.

I think the playmat is very cool. If it was a larger board it wouldn't fit in the box anyway.

I expect to mostly play this game at my house. But I've never used a playmat board. Is it worth the extra money?

you could just fold it multiple times or include an extension similar to Scythe. I'd rather have either of those options more than a 30$ playmat (you could easily buy a great game for that kind of money). I was planning on getting all of the addons, I backed the coins even though I was underwhelmed, but this feels like a waste of money.

Unless you've played the prototype or mocked up your own print-and-play there's no way for you to know. I'm leaning against backing the bigger playmat board because I'm hoping to put everything in one box when all is said and done (probably using a Broken Token insert). Who knows if that's possible though.

I agree with Bill Cody though wishing it were just a bigger board.

Yup, would've bought a bigger board. Playmat, no thanks. Dislike the lack of solidity. Can see why they've done it though, and I imagine it'll satisfy a lot of people.

I can't wait to carry a giant roll tube to my game nights. *sarcasm*

I'm all in on any addons that actually improve the game but these are just cosmetic. If I would add these it would only be for resale since they're KS exclusive but I'm worried about not recouping my investment.

I have the playmat for Firefly the Game, but that's because the regular board is in three separated sections (two were expansions), and tends to come apart. I'm not interested in this one, especially since the copy says the original works just fine. (I turned down one for Mare Nostrum Empires too). But if it makes money for them, so much the better. Neither this nor the coins are on the main KS page.

Looking at the larger graphic resolution, I see now that there are decorative TENTACLES all around the margins. Now I suggested an Octopus Clan. But if we're not getting one, maybe we'll get an Octopus or Kraken monster?

Otherwise its just kind of kinky, especially the one slithering across the goddess. Maybe someone's been watching too many porno anime...

Keep asking for your bigger box. Perhaps it will fit in an upgraded box.

I LOVE this add on. Because I don't want it laugh. So far I'm interested in 0 of 2 which means I might actually be able to get all the content add ons and have the full experience at the end.

a board extension (like scythe), keeping the same aspect ratio, the 2nd board would be 88.5mm x 73.75mm (bigger than the original board). granted, they probably don't need quite the same aspect ratio as some of the elements would stay the same size, thus allowing some areas to shrink a bit.

Sorry to bring you bad news, but that seems unlikely, according to a comment by Thiago: "The core box will certainly not be able to fit all these extras. Have you seen the size of the Daikaiju and Oni of Plagues?"

I have the big Mare Nostrum map (70 x 140 cm) and I must say it is far more immersive to play on.
You don't have "break lines" where the board folds and it doesn't get as crowded.

That said, the difference between the normal and big KS maps is significantly smaller (original MN map was only 46 x 92).
Also: 71cm wide means a lot of people won't have any space left on the edges of the table - so keep that in mind.
Fortunately RS doesn't seem to have the huge player mats like BR did.

Also I wonder if this is the 2nd of the 3 planned add-ons .. or will there be a 4th?
In any case there will be a (retail) 6th player add-on .. so no art book?

No problem here, just don't add it.

People in the comments seem to believe this was an unplanned one. I find it hard to believe but who knows.

So a community requested optional add-on has been given. The dust hasnt even settled and you already demand slightly different stuff like 5 year old? Way to go, mate.

A ton of people asked for it and they've never done something like this before. Seems pretty unplanned... I'm not even convinced the metal coins were planned for that matter.

CMON already stated that the player count caps at 6.

No way I'm paying $30 for that, just seems like the giant pieces will be to big for the standard board.

Crazy to make minitures that big.

My understanding there was going to be two more factions as add ons.

I think Eric hinted at it during a Q&A

I think the point is that the creators stated that this add-on was based on "backer demand", and is not one of the 3 teased originally. So whether they had this one already thought out or not, we still are looking at a couple more to come.
