I am designing and building a new board game table and I was just curious if I need to alter my plans. Currently it'll be a 42in x 42in play area. Will this be enough to practice organized play rules?

Standard size game should be played on a 4x4 (48in x 48in), with larger sized games pushed up to 6x4.

Honestly, however, if you had to stick to 42x42, you would probably be fine losing those six inches.

Would the game still play well on a 3' x 5' playing surface? The only table I have has these dimensions. I'm not too familiar with how important the play area size is to war gaming.
