Donald Trump sends 'hate group' to a UN conference on women's rights
Quote:
Two groups who have advocated against expanding rights and funding for women and the LGBTIQ community are attending a United Nations meeting on women’s rights, on behalf of the US. [...]

The Center for Family and Human Rights (C-FAM) is a think tank that has been labelled as a “hate group” for their international anti-LGBTQI advocacy work and violent rhetoric by the Southern Poverty Law Center, a legal advocacy organisation which specialises in protection of civil rights.

C-FAM’s aim is “discrediting socially radical policies” at the UN, as outlined in their mission statement. They have referred to gay marriage and adoption as “truly harmful” to society and “public health".

The Heritage Foundation does not advocate violence nor are they called a 'hate group'. They are often referred to as right-wing and have published researched reports citing the UN’s “misguided women’s agenda” and how UN conventions on women “undermine family, religion, and sovereignty".

They have also called for deep cuts in Mr Trump’s upcoming proposed federal budget to programmes meant to combat violence against women, according to a statement from OutRight Action International, international human rights advocacy group.

Jessica Stern, the Executive Director of OutRight Action International, told The Independent that Vice President Pence may have been the “driver” behind the groups’ placement on the US delegation.

I hope that this part is more so the group awfulizing and getting it a bit wrong.

If they indeed do plan to cut programs that combat violence against women, then they should be looking to add new programs that do at least as much if not more.

I will not say any more until I see the actual plans, but if true, I'd have a clear and harsh assessment of the group.

Uhhh, no, it's not any big surprise that Dominionist Vice President Pence would be behind inviting two Dominionist groups to participate in the U.S. delegation to the United Nations.

You're not thinking with your Dominionism hat on, are ya?

Then we shall look forward to reading your clear and harsh assessment of C-FAM and the Heritage Foundation group, both of which are indeed Dominionist groups. Moreover, it's no big surprise that the Dominionist-dominated Trump/Pence administration would invite fellow Dominionist groups to participate in such gatherings. Moreover, those groups also have international ties to other like-minded groups in Russia, Africa, Eastern Europe, and other African countries.

Trump Names C-FAM and Heritage Foundation Members To The U.S. Delegation To United Nations' Commission On The Status Of Women

Austin Ruse speaks at 2015 conference on sexual orientation and gender identity in international law

The Trump administration this week named representatives from two intensely anti-choice and anti-LGBTQ groups, C-FAM and the Heritage Foundation, to be part of the official U.S. delegation to the session of the United Nations' Commission on the Status of Women, which began on Monday and runs until next Friday, March 24.

The U.S. State Department’s press release announcing the delegation calls the session “the most important annual meeting on women’s issues at the United Nations.” But just last week, in an email titled “Seven Days to War... Meet the Enemy, Learn Their Names,” C-FAM called it “one of the most dangerous meetings of the year.”

On Monday morning, C-FAM sent out an email calling the session an “assault on life and family” and begging for money, portraying themselves as a “small and relatively weak” organization pitted against the “rich and powerful” forces such as the U.N. Human Rights Office. Now they are part of the official U.S. delegation.

Austin Rude of C-FAM wrote:

Meet the enemies of life, faith, and family who will be at the upcoming Commission

2:00 a.m. March 7, 2017

Dear Friend of the Friday Fax,

We are seven days away from one of the most dangerous meetings of the year; the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.

I want you to meet the leaders of the organizations that are the most dangerous in the world to men, women, and children; the leaders of the organizations that will spend and direct hundreds of millions of dollars to spread the sexual revolution even to Christian and Muslim countries that do not want their poison.

Tewodros Melesse

Tewodros Melesse is Director-General of International Planned Parenthood Association. He is an economist educated at the Catholic University of Louvain, the font of much heresy in our world. Melesse and his organization are directly responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths of unborn children and the spread of sexual immorality throughout Africa and much of the developing world.

Nancy Northrup

Nancy Northrup is President & CEO of the Center for Reproductive Rights, a group of lawyers dedicated to forcing countries to accept abortion on demand and making governments pay for it, too. Her organization has been at the forefront of imposing baby-killing all over the world. If there is a lawsuit against your government in favor of baby-killing, Northrup and her crew are involved.

Help us stop their murderous agenda. Help us stop Nancy Northrup and Tewodros Melesse. Help us stop International Planned Parenthood Federation and the Center for Reproductive Rights, among the most murderous groups the world has ever known. And I am not exaggerating.

Pray right now for their defeat. And go to www.c-fam.org/donate to help C-FAM defeat them.

We will be right there fighting them. But we cannot do it alone. I know you cannot be at the United Nations, but you can be there in spirit and in prayer and in your financial support.

Seven days to war. Help us now.

Yours sincerely,

Austin Ruse
President/C-FAM
Publisher/Friday Fax

C-FAM, formerly the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, and its leader Austin Ruse are so committed to enshrining “traditional” ideologies about gender, marriage, and family in international law that they have teamed up with many of the world’s most repressive regimes to carry out their fight at the United Nations. The Heritage Foundation is at the heart of a massive Religious Right coalition pushing to give business owners a broad legal right to discriminate against LGBT people and families as well as single parents based on their holding traditional religious views about gender, marriage and family.

Trump’s massive expansion of the global gag rule already made it clear that his administration was willing to target some of the world’s most vulnerable people in order to meet the demands of his Religious Right base. Ruse recently complained about efforts by other nations and nonprofits to mitigate the harm of Trump’s policy on public health efforts in poor countries. The official appointments of C-Fam and Heritage effectively remove any lingering doubts about the Trump administration’s abandonment of what has been important U.S. advocacy for reproductive health and LGBTQ human rights around the world.

OutRight Action International, a human rights group active at the U.N., decried the appointments.

Jessica Stern

“Fundamentalist notions about how women and girls should behave should never be the basis of advising or negotiating US foreign policy,” said Executive Director Jessica Stern in a statement.

Stern also called it “a bad sign that two organizations that have tried to de-legitimize the United Nations and human rights internationally now sit on the official U.S. delegation.” Stern held out hope that even in the face of these appointments, the U.S. might be willing to support Commission on the Status of Women conclusions condemning discrimination.

The U.S. delegation will be led by:

anti-choice U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley

and her deputy Michele Sison.

Joining them as Public Delegates will be:

Lisa Correnti, C-FAM’s executive vice president

and Grace Melton, Heritage Foundation associate for social issues at the U.N.

Religious Right Rallies Around Trump’s Anti-LGBTQ United Nations Delegation

> Excerpts from the March 20, 2017 Right Wing Watch news story by Peter Montgomery entitled:

Religious Right Rallies Around Trump’s Anti-LGBTQ United Nations Delegation

Mat Staver of the Liberty Counsel (center), Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council (right), & Lila Rose, president of Live Action (left) appear on a 2014 Family Research Council broadcast entited "The Supreme Court & Natural Marriage".

The Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins and Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver are among the anti-equality Religious Right leaders coming to the defense of the Trump administration, which has been under fire for naming officials from two anti-LGBTQ groups to an official US delegation at the United Nations.

As we reported last week, the Trump administration appointed representatives from C-FAM, formerly the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, and the Heritage Foundation to the official US delegation to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. Advocates for the human rights of LGBTQ people have criticized the appointments, noting among other things that C-FAM’s record of anti-gay extremism had led to its classification as an anti-LGBTQ hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The Heritage Foundation plays a major role in promoting Religious Right resistance to legal recognition for LGBTQ people, including laws that protect them from discrimination on the job.

Staver’s statement, published on Friday, laughably claims that C-FAM and the Heritage Foundation are “thoughtful” groups that “do not demean people with whom they disagree.” In reality, C-FAM’s Austin Ruse continuously smears and demeans the people he disagrees with, portraying advocates for LGBTQ equality as “homofascists,” threats to children and families, enemies of freedom, and even Satan’s minions.

Jim DeMint, the head of the Heritage Foundation, once said he wants gay people barred from teaching in public schools.

Tony Perkins says C-FAM and Heritage are “respected voices in the conservative movement who reflect the Trump administration’s values.” While that statement may be more accurate than Staver’s, it may also be even more disturbing for what it says about the hard-right values that are now being reflected in the Trump administration’s decisions.

Perkins goes on to dismiss the idea that the United Nations should be protecting the rights of vulnerable LGBTQ people:

Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council wrote:

An even deeper problem is that these activists use the term “human rights” but have no clue what it means. The fact that the Left claims that “sexual orientation” and other terms are “human rights” isn’t rooted in anything higher than their own assertion. What gives them the right to define what it means?

And why should their policy preference take preference?

It doesn’t. Just because they cloak it as a “human right” won’t make it so. The only solution is to search for a standard common to all human beings as derived from a higher authority. Christians and conservatives are uniquely able to offer this. Thank goodness the Trump administration recognizes that and made sure they were represented at the United Nations in the first place.

C-FAM is so committed to resisting any recognition of the human rights of LGBTQ people in international agreements that it has teamed up with some of the world’s most repressive regimes in order to safeguard “traditional” notions of gender, family and marriage. C-FAM’s elevation by the Trump administration is the clearest signal yet that Trump will abandon the Obama administration’s crucial support for the human rights of LGBTQ people around the world.

Matt Staver said C-FAM and the Heritage Foundation “will come to the table genuinely seeking the best for women across the world.” That’s doubtful, given their support for the Trump administration’s drastic expansion of the “global gag rule,” which could have a devastating effect on public health measures and leave the world’s poorest women even more vulnerable.
