The first game that came to mind is Medina (second edition), which sadly seems to have a serious mold problem (yech).

Any other cool wooden pieces games besides the usual wooden blocks, cubes, meeples games?

I'll add "Quarto":

Each piece is a unique combination of four binary attributes -- tall/short, round/square, light/dark, and hollow/solid.

Part of why I'm asking is I have a vague memory of a relatively recent game that I think involved wooden bits, like building a city, and I think involved maybe mining, or manufacturing, out west maybe?

My memory no work no more.

Probably could be a lot of different games, but that just reminder me of World Monuments, where wooden pieces are used as building blocks:

But again, there are a bajillion games with wooden bits.

Thanks fer trying but no.

It's probably actually a game about dragons made from slinkys. I'm just picturing wooden bits. And a river. I see a river. Maybe.

And some girl in the sky with diamonds, maybe? whistle

What is the nature of this vague memory, I wonder...When the first thing that comes to mind is Medina.

Any other descriptions?
Is this just one of your dreams, coming back in bits and pieces?
Repressed childhood memory?
Are you Ok, Skutch?
What day is it?
Who's the Presi--wait don't answer that!

OK, dragon slinky...

No?
Out west? Maybe Woody the Sherrif and his pet dog...

No?
A river...?

Though that wasn't the first thing that came up in a search of slinky river.
More like...

Maybe you're OK, after all.

Maybe.
