Mike & Stan,
Do you have any information about the Kickstarter you can share? Is it still on schedule for 1 May? Have you decided pledge levels and add-ons? Exclusives? Shipping costs?

Excited for this one...please tell us all about it!

Hey Jason,

Thanks for asking! We're hoping to launch sometime in May, but at this point it's still too early to determine exactly when. At the moment I'm working on some graphics revisions to the cards, and also putting together cards for one of the expansions, which is going to be included with a Premium Edition of the game. Once I have all that finished, we'll be sending off a few copies to reviewers to get some "updated" reviews on the new and improved version.

Back to the Kickstarter though; we're deep into the process of setting it up right now, and everything is looking good. We've already got the pledge levels complete, add-ons, and shipping costs figured out and ready to go.

Here is what I can tell you (without spoiling too much), we'll have a Base edition and a Premium edition (each with price points much lower than Tau Ceti). The Premium edition will include what we call the "Planetary Expansion", as well as custom Faction Dice (featuring the four faction logos and a mixed paint effect), plus a black felt dice pouch. The Planetary Expansion itself includes an additional 140 cards + 4 special dice.

We won't have any Exclusives, though we do have a special add-on planned which won't be revealed until we reach our goal, and it will be exclusive to Tradewars - Homeworld.

We'll also be offering a "Premium Dice" add-on, which will include the Premium Faction Dice (that are already included in the Premium edition) + 2 black d6s, 1 black d10, the 4 special dice which come in the Planetary Expansion, and the dice pouch. So you'll be getting a total of 11 dice and a dice pouch with this add-on.

As for shipping costs, expect very similar costs as Tau Ceti, though they're likely to be just a bit lower as the game will weigh less and come in a smaller box. Shipping will be free to the US, CA, UK, and Germany. Also, expect freight to go MUCH smoother and faster this next time, as we've got the process down now and will have worked out all the kinks

I just completed a preview video which showcases a few pieces of the art, and some lines from the backstories as well. This is meant to be sort of a teaser so we can start building hype

Hopefully the KS campaign goes well. If it does, the Premium version Mike is talking about will contain EVERYTHING that the "original" version of the game had and MORE...

The one (1) Player Box Sets were "streamlined" because newcomers to the game which were not "experienced" gamers - felt that the game had too many options. "Analysis-Paralysis" for newbies (so-to-speak).

As such I made the difficult decision to focus the "core" of the game to Space Skirmishes. And when I did this, the game was simpler such that nine (9) year olds were able to play the game... Sure they were not 100% optimizing each role every turn - never the less they had FUN playing the game. And that's important. We want people to see the "core" game as an entry game for anyone who hasn't played a "deck-builder" (for example). And we wanted to ensure Parents could play along with their children too!

But ADDING all of the premium content and hopefully all Stretch Goals will result in a game with more strategic choices.

For example: you have a Starship worth 5 points. You can deploy it and have a strong showing in terms of capacity which means more firepower and resistance against your opponent's Starships. That's the "core" version...

In the Premium version (or by adding the Planetary Expansion), what if you have a Trade Agreement which gives you a 3x Bank bonus... What this means is instead of deploying that Starship - you can now BANK it for 15 points!

Now the decision to deploy or bank is harder to make... Obviously if you bank, you'll have to wait until you exhaust your deck before seeing that Starship again... But you earned 15 points with one card. Which can give you an advantage if you are playing the Tradewars scenario where all you need is 100 points to WIN!

It's that kind of depth of decision making that I wanted in the "hard-core gamer" version... The 13+ version that forces players to make "mind blowing" decisions instead of simply "reactive" game play.

And the game is far from "over"... I have several more game "Expansions" for more ways to make the game more strategic and add more depth and replayability.

It all depends on what people think about the "core" game... It's a deck-builder - but it's a very DIFFERENT deck-builder. I would love to create two (2) more "core" versions with different races... That could really mix things up if you have all three (3) races at the same table!

We want this game to continue growing - if the FANS decide they want it to grow! So everything will be left to the fans/gamers... Do they like what they see and play - if so ... we've got more to offer!

Cheers!

And about the example 5 points vs. 15 points... Since Trade Agreements are TEMPORARY and last only a few turns, the next time you have that 5 Point Starship - you may NOT have that Trade Agreement anymore...

Hehehe... Difficult choices which can make or break your path to Victory!

Update: What makes a difference is Scenario Victory Conditions. If you are playing a scenario which gives you an option to victory, like say collecting the first 100 quickSilver, well points are very important and you may want to benefit from a point bonus.

In other scenarios which are "combat-oriented" the points may be less important and so you may want to deploy a level "5" starship in order to do more damage to your opponents.

So the scenario also helps in deciding what you should focus on... Also it is important to watch what your opponents are doing also!
