Subject: Pandemic style battle goal recycling variant? rss

I was seeing someone complain about seeing the same battle goal repeatedly despite shuffling, and had a thought -- would it be interesting if the battle goals ended up repeating as a smaller pool, per character? It would in effect define a sort of personality for your character rather than being totally random. "Ah yeah I remember my brute who often had to get first blood, but other times just ran around trying to loot"

For those who don't know, in Pandemic you draw cities from the deck into the discard pile, but when a special card happens, the discard pile is reshuffled onto the top of the deck. So the cities that previously got infected will now get infected again, plus maybe a few that weren't gotten to before.

I'm not sure of an elegant way to implement it given everybody needs to draw from the same battle goal deck, and with retiring of characters, but I thought this would add neat twist.

Anyone think this would work out?

This might be good for the Variants forum.

Side note, I still haven't bugged anyone for a rules citation on the Battle Goal deck being shuffled. I can't find that anywhere in either the rules or the deck. It's just implied when you return a goal to the deck as far as I know.

Since it doesn't say that battle goals should be put at the bottom or something like that, I think it's safe to assume it should be shuffled prior to each scenario.

I just pass out 2 per player (4P) and set all the Discards in a 'Discard Pile' When scenario is complete I put those battle cards in the 'Discard' pile and next continue until all Battle Cards have been exhausted then I shuffle and re-distribute. It keeps it from seeing the same couple Goals through at least 2-3 scenarios.
