Hey Fellow Gamers,

So i am not a fan of the next encounter visible on top of the encounter deck, anyone else thought about this? Way i see it I can:

A. Place the Tyrant Card on top of encounter deck to hide next card
B. Keep the encounter deck off table
C. Find someone to make me a custom plastic top loading card box (looking for a reference for this please)

Would like to use option C, but cant seem to find someone to print it.

I'll be honest, the thought never crossed my mind. But then I'm not one to give into temptation to view the next encounter.

Just had a thought, option D) Once you've read your current encounter place it back on top of the encounter deck, until you resolve the encounter?

You can stack the cards upside down, with a blank card on top, or, what I now do, sleeve the encounters in opaque sleeves and keep them face-down. I just remove them from their sleeve when I draw the encounter.

Also a good option, TY

Now now Mr Royal, do you really have to go reminding us that you already have your copy while we all still suffering the agony of waiting...

Still thinking about a small top loaded plastic card box that holds maybe 30 cards.

It's too bad to hear that the problem doesn't go away though, and that you've had to resort to an even more fiddly-sounding solution.

Could be something for CTG to tweak for a TMB 2.0 at some point wayy down the line.

As it goes, I don't really see it as a problem. I assumed having that insight into the upcoming card was the intent, so my advice would be to play it as designed. But certainly I enjoy adding ways to make things a surprise, just like the OP.

You know I'm not so far away that I might be prepared to mosey over a county and risk the grubby hand chopping. ninja

Also if you are really worried about it you can use a "cut card" like the ones that are used in casinos to cover the bottom card of the deck in the dealers hand. Something like this or similar.

because i am a bit OCD about it, I have begun the process of a custom box. I just need to know if there is an issue with having the TMB logo on it? dont want to use copyrighted stuff if thats an issue. Gonna send plan to CTG to see if what I am doing is acceptable.

Have at it Jason, in fact, if you want our logo in .png format with backgrounds dropped, just e-mail me directly at josh@chiptheorygames.com

As for the Encounter Deck, there is a practical and thematic reason for what we did.

Practical: Giving the story a FULL SIDE, allowed us to set the stage for each Encounter much better than just a few tiny, tiny sentences at the top of the back side.

Thematic: After trying it a few ways, we found that we liked the subtle idea of being able to see whats coming from afar. For example, you just crossed the river, it's still the end of day 3, but already your nostrils burn from the poisonous swamp up ahead (sitting on the top of the Encounter deck). Maybe you should fully heal vs searching for loot.

We also found that even if you recognize the Encounter, the choices on the back are hard to remember and have very different challenges based on WHO you are facing (which are unknown until revealed unless you've scouted). This mean's a seasoned Gearloc that knows the area may be able to speak on what lies ahead, but the party will still have to adapt strategies based on the Baddies they are facing.

That being said, if enough people want it to be a complete surprise, we may be open to producing a "Cut Card" that sits on top of the Encounter deck. We will keep an eye on this thread! Great comments everyone.

And Ricky!...stick to Nugget rather than Picket and stop the taunting!

I would love to have a custom cut card! That would be fantastic. Otherwise, I'd be fine supplying my own.

Thanks,
Dan

ps. Looking forward to the game!

What about shuffling and then drawing a card from the bottom of the deck instead? That way you only see the back of the top card at all times and then each subsequent card will be hidden until you reveal it.

Probably what I will do if I find it too tempting to look at it.
