Does distributing expose markers as a result of using Comet Mallet constitute "interacting" when you distribute a marker to an enemy in the opposite field?

Yes, it does. The only exceptions to the "Pits of hell" restriction are The Outhouse terrain and effects caused by enemies.

For the reference:

For each point of
damage above the value
needed to defeat the

marker. Distribute these
markers between any
characters freely.

Heroes may not move between
fields or in any way interact with
characters on opposite field.

Exceptions to this rule are
The Outhouse terrain and
effects caused by enemies.
