i am on a quest to have an ideal heavy(ish) game for core gamers that is competitive for each player count.

so far my list is as follows:

1: Mage Knight
2: Ares Project
3: Three kingdoms redux
4: Dungeon Lords
5: Wallenstein
6: Rex: Final days of an Empire
7: ???
8: Captain Sonar

competition is not absolute, as captain sonar is a team game, and Rex includes alliances. But it should be competitive game (some win, some lose)

I don't like having that gap in my list. What can i fill it with?

Help me BGG Recommendations-kinobi you are my only hope!

(for now, party games fill the gap. Diplomacy is a possibility. but i want to know what else interesting is out there)

If your group is not adverse to longer games you might look into Mega Civilization. Its BGG weight is 3.8 and the BGG user poll indicates it is best with 7 or 9 players.

Mage Knight base game is only 4 players max, you may need expansions to get to 7 players. And a holiday to play it with 7. whistle

Other games with 7:
Diplomacy
Pax Britannica (although OOS)

When asking "What would Jesus do?", remember that flipping over tables and using a whip are within the realm of possibilities.

Diplomacy is a classic (and works well only on 7 players). There's good reason it's still a main-stay on the competitive convention circuit, despite being a design from over 50 years ago.

And if you get into the experience, there are loads of variants and different maps out there, as well as a thriving play-be-email community.

+1 to Mega Civilization.

Junta.

If you don't mind print and play, Henry VIII: Intrigue in the Tudor Court. (I recommend this a lot on here, but only because it's really good)

candidates so far:

Kings of Air and Steam
Diplomacy
Mega Civilization
Struggle of Empires

More suggestions welcome. am looking into each of these to see how much i like them. But they made first pass. (thanks for the geek lists based on player count, a big help!)

Mega Civ is off the table (way too expensive for the moment... maybe someday)

Diplomacy i MAY be getting in a trade soon (fingers crossed)

I think i might like Kings of Air and Steam, but maybe not as my GO TO 7 player game. should be fun at a variety of counts, and an option for 7 though.

Looking for more info on Struggle of Empires. Reasonably priced, Seems interesting, But i don't see a huge amount of community around it. Only videos are from calandale (not a huge fan of his style but i seem to like games that he does videos for)

Any good places to find out more about SOE? Several suggested it, i suppose you may be interested? Any exceptional reviews or playthroughs i may have missed?

Always interested in looking for more options, though!
