The cost of war-games has been rising for as long as I have been in the hobby (since 1978). If you cannot afford a game (or justify paying the cost) don't buy it.
Complaining about shipping costs is just sort of silly, though quite common. I would have had some sympathy for the major shipping companies had "repealed" the gas surcharge a few years ago, but they get no love from me - I try not pass my frustration with shippers on to game distributors.
Also, you can wait until US distributors (I think it is Noble Knight who distributes VentoNuovo games in the USA).
It's not the shipping costs...I understand the lack of control over shipping costs. It's the map. I would pay $85-$90 including shipping for the mounted map but not for laminated heavy paper map.
