Tomorrow I'm playing a game of Tyranid Attack with an old friend - probably the first time I've played Tyranid Attack in 20 years, though I still count it proudly in my GW board game collection.
I took it off the shelf tonight, where it sits naturally with ASC and Space Hulk, to retrieve the rulebook and read the rules - taking a quick inventory of the components I thought "Where are the doors? Where are all the Va Jay Jay doors?!" - what I didn't realize was that I was remembering them, of course, from ASC and that Tyranid Attack didn't come with them. Still not believing that, I went to the contents page on the rulebook - surely enough, they weren't listed. STILL not believing, I flipped the box over to look at the picture on the back, and yep, no doors.
I have to wonder if someone at GW rethought the design of those wonderful doors and, when it was decided to revamp/repackage ASC, he said "Yeah, everything but the doors". What a discussion that must have been.
*I know this isn't the major difference between the two games, but it's a nice thread title.
