Do you have to cash in all rep points when ranking up?
I just received my Kickstarter version of this game two days ago. We played for the first time yesterday and I had a few rules questions, including this very same question.
The rules, in the "Cashing in Reputation Points and Winning the Game" section of the rulebook state:
D6 Rulebook wrote:
Note: Cashed in Rep points are discarded and DO NOT count toward your next promotion. You start your new rank with 0 Rep points.
[underline emphasis mine]. That second sentence seems to indicate that you need to discard *all* of your saved up Rep points, even if they add up to more than you need for this promotion (so that you can start your new rank with 0 Rep points). Could it be that when the rules were written, it wasn't taken into consideration the situation where you need one Rep point for your next promotion, but capture a bandit worth two Rep points that turn? Or you press your luck and capture multiple bandits, worth two or more Rep points, in an attempt to catch up to the leader?
I believe your extra Rep points *should* carry over towards your next rank as well, but I'm not positive because of that second sentence above. My reasoning for this interpretation is that the rules also state:
D6 Rulebook wrote:
You start as a Bounty Hunter. After cashing in 6 Rep points you are promoted to Deputy...
After cashing in 8 Rep points as a Deputy you are promoted to Sheriff...
After cashing in 10 Rep points as a Sheriff you are promoted to Marshal and win the game!
It does not say "After cashing in 6 or more Rep points..." It says to cash in six to become a Deputy (meaning, one would assume, *exactly* six). Same thing with 8 for Sheriff and 10 for Marshal. Nowhere else in the rules does it mention having to discard *all* of your Rep points when gaining a promotion. Just that single sentence.
A simple fix is to just disregard that second sentence in that first rules quote above:
"Note: Cashed in Rep points are discarded and DO NOT count toward your next promotion.
You start your new rank with 0 Rep points."
On another note, is there a FAQ for the game online anywhere? I couldn't find one.
