Hello there!

Tikal has entered my wishlist recently

What are the differences now? Is it only visual/components?

The meepples and 3D pyramids are really cool, but I'm wondeing if the cost of a new version vs. a used copy is worth it...

Is the gameplay identical or exactluy the same?

Play is exactly the same. It's up to you which art/components you prefer.

Me? I'm keeping BOTH editions! :-)

There must have been a moment at the beginning, where we could have said no. Somehow we missed it. Well, we'll know better next time.

According to this
Super Meeple edition rules in English
which has feedback from the publisher (indirectly), there is only one rule change: when setting up a camp you need a worker in the relevant hex.
Everything else is identical, rules-wise.

I have owned the original for years, and just got the new one. The pyramids are indeed a thing of beauty.

I plan on keeping a mix-and-match edition of my preferred components, and trade/sell the other complete mix-and-match away.
Definitely I will keep the new pyramids, and the old box. Probably the old board as well, since it'll make fitting the boards in the boxes easier.

Yes, that view is killing me...

For now I think I'll get an used copy of the early versions, tyr it with the group, and if it works jump to the new one, maybe...

Huh. Thanks, JohnnyDollar. I did not know this. That's a HUGE difference in gameplay even if it only seems like a minor change.

I'll probably keep playing by the old rules, but I may try this new tweak at least once. I wonder if this was a change with Kramer/Kiesling input. It must have been, right?

According to that thread, the publishers say they would not modify any rules without the designer's approval, and that Kramer approved it.

I guess it's more thematic cool

I was going to get the Rio version, until I saw the French version components.

Here in Canada, the difference is only $10 ($49 CAD). Well worth it.
