Hey everyone, I have gone and done a thing!

I have just started my own Youtube Channel called "The Board Game Teacher". It is going to be primarily focusing on the educational value of board games and how they can be used in educational settings (school, home, etc.). There will be other content in there eventually about gamification, gameschooling and whatever else I may get requests on. I would really appreciate if you could get the word out to anyone you know who you think might be interested (teachers, parents, educational assistants, etc.) Subscribing to, and liking my channel is going to be a big help and provide me extra incentive to get more material out!

The first videos will be talking about some of the fundamentals that people with little or no board game experience may be needing to know. Video #1 "What to look for when buying a game".

Here is a link to my channel:

Thanks in advance for your anticipated support!

My second video has just gone up. It focuses on helping those who are looking to include board games to their teaching repertoire (in the classroom or home), but are new to modern board gaming. It can be quite daunting! Where do you start looking? Well, with this video, of course!

Well, as much as we may laugh at the idea of such a game as "Snakes and Ladders" we have to accept that there are some people in the world that think of that game when they think of board games. Well, what is all that they have?

I decided to start off my video series with a look at the game of Snakes and Ladders from the perspective of an educational tool. How much learning can there actually be in such a simple game?

Watch and be amazed!

A teacher at my school has kids design a game for how to pass a law through Congress and I have seen many kids use snakes and ladders for the game, my co-worker is not familiar with modern gaming. However, he had a group of students re-design Cards Against Humanity into making a bill and then the one person chose which bill they wanted to pass. It sounded like fun, for a classroom. I don't like CAH, but I liked this idea.

When asked to design a board game, I am sure that most students would default to imitations of what they already know, such as Snakes and Ladders or Monopoly or Trivial Pursuit. I would be curious to hear more about how he re-designed Cards Against Humanity into something acceptable for students! I know it operates on the same principles as Apples to Apples, so may be that is a better comparison?

In the future videos I put out I will definitely be moving into more of the modern "designer" board games, also looking at a variety of levels and age ranges. If you have any requests or suggestions, I would be happy to hear them!

My fourth video went up today and now I am really starting to get into something good!

In this episode I talk about the deck building game "Paperback" and discuss not only how it is suitable as a classroom literacy game, but how I modify the rules slightly to make it more manageable in a classroom setting.

Come to the classroom and check it out!

I recorded some thoughts on Critical Thinking as it pertains to learning and to board games. As it got a bit lengthy, I split it into two videos.

I have recorded and episode in which I examine the game Sleeping Queens by Miranda Evarts and published by Gamewright Games. I look at how to play the game and also the educational benefits contained within it.

Thanks, I'm looking into that. I have seen some examples of what you are suggesting, but I am still figuring out how to do it.

Hey a little over a year later and I discovered this thread while searching on "gameschooling".

My wife and I homeschooled all 4 of our kids (youngest one is about to be a senior!) using games without knowing it was "a thing".

I think this is a really cool niche and I am starting to explore it.

I will go check out your youtube channel.
