A pair of thieves ran through the market place, their hands filled to the brim with ill gotten goods and jewels. Shouts echoed as they made their escape out of the city. As they round the corner to one of the gates, a statue blocks their path. The pair curse and hurry toward another gate. As they come toward it, again a statue blocks the way. This time however, it reaches forth with heavy hands and grips the thieves by their cuffs. Moments later, guards arrive to see the a trio of statues in front of the gates, two of which have eyes that moves fearfully in all directions.
Today's card is Anu's Arbiter for the Negotiation faction. This Greater creature is a stalwart defender that excels at locking down enemy attackers. It has a cost of two Lesser and one Greater Aspects making it a solid early game defender for control style decks. It has one Fight and seven Life, allowing it to take a couple solid hits before going down. It is immobile, so it cannot attack during your Combat step. The benefit however is its abilities.
Anu's Arbiter places a Freeze counter on enemy creatures it Blocks. This means they typically do not Refresh until the Freeze counter is first removed. This means your opponent would need to attack with either Fleet or Stealth creatures to get through, otherwise a creature attacking would get locked down for an extra turn. This swing can mean defensive decks with Anu's Arbiter can build up the resources they need in order to really go off. In addition, with Conviction every Freeze Marker removed gives you the opportunity to Destroy 1 from that players Discard Stack. You can use this to remove powerful cards permanently from the game.
This card is excellent for a player going the distance against their opponents. It can buy you the time you need to get that game winning combo off or put out those huge Exalted creatures. So make use of this card if you need a defender to keep your foe at bay.
