I have a small collection of hats. All of which are of the western style.

I was curious if others are hat wearers and what type of hat do you most often wear. For the simplicity and ease of the topic, let us include caps as well.

My hat collection currently consist of:
1 Black Resistol
1 Brown Resistol
1 Charcoal Resistol
1 Black Baldwin Custom

What is your hat selection for protection from the sun?

I have a fur felt fedora style hat with a pretty short brim.
I bought it as a "beater" to be worn in all weathers hence the fur. It's grey with a black band.
A bucket hat occasionally gets worn. And... that's about it.

Generally, I don't wear hats. But about 15 years ago I bought one of these (leather) and wore it frequently for a couple of years.

I'm bald - I always have a hat. In Oz it's a health necessity, otherwise you get skin cancer (forget the creepy crawlies, that's the real risk here)

So-
Brown felt fedora
Thinsulate-lined woolen beanie (Oz for "watch cap")
Tired and disintegrating straw Panama
Hand stitched leather fedora

Assorted silly costume hats for parties -
coolie hat, fez, fire warden helmet, red beret, rubber Norman helmet...

Oi!

Also fur felt doesn't mean furry. It means doesn't shrink or bend out of shape in the weather.

I don't know how i forgot but my actual standard headwear is a fishermans beanie.

Fedoras are marked at this point, sorry. Too many assholes wearing them.

For me, note I live in Texas & have a baldy heid. I have a Thinsulate 40gram hat that I keep in the right pocket of my heavy Bioware coat. It's been ridiculously good to me for 12 years or so since my dad got me it in a particularly brutal Scottish winter.

For summer, it's typically just a generic baseball cap & sunscreen. Lots of it. I've got a particular weather beaten favourite from Old Navy that's as old as my kids, but I'm not too picky.

Your mileage will definitely differ!

I don't wear hats often. I have stocking caps for winter and baseball caps for the summer when I'm at the race track.

Interesting! I recall seeing a fair bit of wool hats in the list.
May I ask why these individuals prefer wool to fur felt?

Thank you for all the participation.

My hat collection consists of two knit caps. Let the sun do its worst, I live in the North so it's the cold that I need headgear for.

(And by "North" I mean "New England." Not Koldfoot-type North.)

Both.

A rabbit fur hat with cozy ear flaps for the brutal cold here.

And a pointed wool hat with a wide brim for when it's raining.

When it's not cold or raining, no hat is required.

My head is, unfortunately, too large for most hats. I got turned away at a Blue Jays game twice from two different memorabilia/sporting goods stands when I tried to buy a baseball cap. They don't make fitted caps available in my size unless I go to the main store or a special hat maker, apparently.

I mean, it's not THAT large. Just because light bends towards it and children cower in fear at the constant threat of eclipses when I walk by...
