I've heard the praises of Ikea's Kallax shelves. But I haven't heard anything about Target or Walmart's versions? Has anyone tried theses? I'm guessing they are not as sturdy, but if braced to the wall they seem a much cheaper solution.

I have those exact Walmart shelves and they get the job done; I don't really have any complaints about them.

I have the Walmart one and I think it's very good. Simple to put together, pretty cheap and looks fine. My cat's sleeping on it right now, so she likes it too.

Walmarts are fine. I have a bunch, and a bunch of old expidits. They match. Ikeas new ones are a little trimmer though, which might be nice.

And I mention this in ikea threads sometimes. Search better

I don't know if this is the one being sold at Wal-Mart, it might be, but Amazon has these with free shipping:

Better Homes & Gardens - 16-Cube Organizer

They also have some Kallax but it's a bit expensive compared to in store. But Ikea will not ship you the Kallax for cheap. It is usually many times the actual cost of the shelves just for shipping.

I'd also say those you linked are definitely not cheaper. The 16 cube Kallax is only $109. The only problem is the shipping. If you live near an Ikea, these cannot be beat, neither quality nor price.

I can't say for certain either. But I didn't notice that if you go to the page for the 16-cube unit, it shows the same picture that Amazon is using. So that would suggest that they're the same thing. But Walmart is selling it for almost $30 less.

The important thing with these types of shelves is to use the wall mount.

I have the 25 cube Kallax from Ikea, it is awesome. Super sturdy and easy to assemble. Check on Craigslist, I got mine for $80.
