I played Star Trek: Ascendancy a couple of weeks ago, and was amazed to see that the warp drives in that game are a 4000 A.D. variant (i.e., you take them off the map, and keep track of how many turns they've been warping, and then they come in that far away when you want to exit warp).

I really want to know now whether the designers came up with that via parallel evolution or if they swiped it. (Not being pejorative here -- swiping mechanics is how the field grows, and I've done plenty of it in my own designs.)

Pretty sure they swiped it.

The same system is also used in War of the Ring with the fellowship. Granted, it is not in space, but the mechanic is the same.
