So let's say your house burnt down (knock on wood), and assuming your don't have a fireproof safe large enough to hold all your games and they were all lost, what 5 games would you buy first while rebuilding? This question also assumes that your not going to pay hundreds to buy your favorite out of print games nor are you going to wait for a Kickstarter game to come months later. Interested to hear all ya'lls response.

I don't think I can come up with 5. Now, if games stopped coming out, that would be a different story. I'd just rather save my money for new games.

Did your homeowner's insurance cover the cost of replacing the games?

It was an apartment, we split the renter's insurance payment of $20000 evenly (I had one roommate) and I paid off student loans with it.

Probably the same 5 games I'd want to have if I were stranded on an island. But I'm not sure what they are.

Doesn't seem too unreasonable.

Patchwork
Biblios
Trajan
Karuba
Avenue

Some background on my choices:

Karuba and Avenue are both games I love but also double as games I can play with my 7yr old.

Trajan would have been either Glen More or Concordia but both are OOP and that was part of the rules to this question.

Lastly, I would not limit my first purchase to just 5 but probably more like 10. Especially since Patchwork, Biblios and Avenue are all very inexpensive.

The next 5 might be something like:

Splendor
Star Realms
Flashpoint
7 Wonders
Quadropolis, Takenoko or Tokaido (7yr old would make the decision)

Tough one. I will stick to games that I have played enough to know for sure that I would want them again right away.

None of these games would make my top 5 (well... maybe Viticulture with Tuscany). But I love them all. And they are the ones that I play often with my wife and/or friends so I would want them back right away.

Viticulture
San Juan
Battle line
7-wonders Duel (my wife's favorite game)
Pandemic: Iberia

EDIT
My next 5 would be games more for myself that I couldn't live without for too long!

Mage Knight
Comancheria
Combat Commander
Concordia
Twilight Struggle

Elder Sign with all expansions

I would hate to lose Tales of the Arabian Nights to some disaster, though. It cost me a fortune.

I've come here to chew bubble gum and play board games, and I'm all outta bubble gum.

Hmm, difficult question. I picked games that I play often and have very few expansions if any.

Deus
Clash of Cultures
Islebound
Scythe
Tales of the Arabian Nights

If Fallen was not out of print it would have replaced Tales of the Arabian Nights on the list.

Damn you for injecting reason and reality into our silly diversion... (of course you are right).

As of right now, I have Target for Today on pre-order. Already paid for, but not in the burning house. I think that would keep me pretty busy for long enough to assess any future purchases.

This was a tough one since I didn't want to just list my top five.

Concordia
Viticulture
Power Grid
Terraforming Mars

I'm having trouble with the final game.

Oops. It does say five games doesn't it. My others would be an Advanced Squad Leader mix, starting with Advanced Squad Leader: Starter Kit #1.

Also, don't forget to look into "replacement cost value coverage" on your policy. It's usually not much more, and it means they have to pay you what it would cost to buy a comparable new item, as opposed to depreciated value. Very important. Maybe not so much with games, but certainly with any electronics.

We still don't have a digital TV. Three are on satellite and one has the converter and the rabbit ear. (Nice set of priorities for my first thought of replacement, eh.)

A few antique furniture pieces, some other random electronics, but how do you convince an insurer that board games are worth anything? It's like inventorying your clothing.

Wait ...

I've got stuff that I don't know where it is and probably stuff I didn't know I have.

Dang! I need an office building to manage what's in the house.

And a warehouse.

Maybe an inventory will have to do.
