The Napoleonic wars lasted for just under two decades. During this time, battles were waged and campaigns fought throughout Europe and beyond. A combination of strategy and tactics helped separate the most competent commander from the least. However, this alone was not enough to decide the outcome of a battle. Chance proved decisive and he who could somehow harness it would emerge victorious time and again. Napoleon was such a man. For years, he seemed to have luck on his side, but experience would prove, a man creates his own luck and in the waning days of his tenure, Napoleon would find that his luck was running out.
This rule set should quickly lend itself to ease of play and hopefully you will find that it fades into the background while game play rises to the foreground. Consider this a tool kit whereby you can recreate the same puzzles that yesterday’s commanders faced. Discovering your advantages as well as the disadvantages of the opposition will be essential to victory. Yet this won’t be enough. Luck must be on your side and the balance of a battle may very well end up in the roll of the dice.
