A few questions for this excellent campaign.

Does the mission end immediately after success / failure conditions have been reached? Or do you always have to escape / jump to hyperspace, or wait for the turn limit to end? So far I've been using the extra time for farming for XP, as long as I'm in good shape.

Do you get experience for completing the bonus objectives (or sometimes penalties), even if you fail the main objective?

Do AI ships change their target during the action step if their movement takes them closer to another target, or the original target is out of reach? Say if a TIE fighter cannot reach their original target after movement, does it barrel roll / focus to get a shot at another target in range, or just put an evade token?

With Strike AI, I'm not entirely certain at what point the AI decides to attack another ship instead of their target. If something else is at range 1 and the Strike target is at range 2, it will then ignore the strike target? Although the description for Strike AI in the missions sometimes differ from this, and states that the AI will always attack their target if possible.

Our group will stick around looking for the extra XP.

We play it that way.

The TIE Fighters have such a low pilot skill that the board invariably changes around them after they move. They will select a target to determine their move, make the move, focus/evade/barrel roll per the flow chart. Then during combat if their original target has left their arc, or someone else is closer, they will definitely change their target.

However, I don't see this happening during their action phase, because the board state won't have changed.

We play that Strike will always attack their designated target, even at range 3, and ignore anything closer. That's the point of Strike versus Attack. They will only shoot at something else if their Strike target is completely unavailable.

Dave Rathbun's answers are correct.

Some of these things are getting clarification in v0.8 of the rulebook, especially the timing of when a mission ends and when/how rewards for objectives are earned.

Thanks for the answers.
HotAC has definitely renewed my interest in X-wing, and serves as an excuse to buy more (huge) ships, as the missions require them.
And after failing multiple escort / protect missions in a row, I just managed to win "Secure Holonet Receiver" without the Slicer Techs taking a single hit.

That's impressive! It took four tries for our crew to get through it. The challenge with that mission is it seems to have the most dense mission grid of anything, especially at higher pilot skills.

The mission ends after the specified turns stated below each map. Depending on the type of territory you need to escape or just survive, see page 41. Then it'll be checked if the mission objectives got reached.

I just played my first game and found once the Tie fighters mixed it up, the original target is often not in arc or range , so I was reselecting after movement.

A human player would try to second guess the opponent so saw this as the correct method.

Am I over thinking it and upsetting the balance?
