Welcome to the 32nd Play By Forum game of Eldritch Horror

Players who accept invitations should:
* Subscribe to this thread
* List the investigator they want to be (first come, first served);
* Which AO they wish to fight against;
* If they would like no prelude, random prelude, or a specific prelude;
* Their time zone.
* And if they have a specific investigator they want to start off as lead investigator, who it is.

Game details:
* There will be four players, and will use all expansions to date. Players must have all expansions to date (up to Dreamlands) to play.
* AO will be player choice. If at least 3 players choose the same AO, we'll go with that one; otherwise, we'll select randomly between everyone's choices. Players may select multiple possible choices.
* Using a prelude or not will go the same way: if at least 3 people have the same choice, we'll go with that; otherwise, we'll select randomly from everyone's choices.
* Seating will be by time zone, starting at North America Eastern (UTC -5). Lead investigator will start with the first player, unless players choose otherwise.

House rules and personal notes:
* I may be rewrite encounter text to keep a consistent story going, but I don't have any specific story planned for this game. Players are free to choose any investigator they wish. If you give me multiple choices, you'll get the first one mentioned unless you give me specific if/then conditions for how your investigator is chosen. If you want me to emphasize a story, make sure to both let me know how your investigators know of each other, and provide a bit of flavor text yourselves while writing your actions.
* Space 10 will be replaced with the Sahara Desert. After all, why not? It fills a somewhat empty space on the board with a bit of color, even nobody's ever actually used this option in all the games it's been available for.
* The other world deck will consist of a combination of the standard FFG-supplied cards, and those found at this file page. These extra cards maintain roughly the same risk and reward balance of the official cards, while providing some badly-needed variety.

My vote for AO is for Hypnos.
For Prelude (if the group wants one) I'd vote for Otherworldly Dreams.
I haven't decided on an investigator yet. I'll let others choose first.

All right. I'll do most of the setting up when I get home, but in order to possibly speed up the last investigator choice, well do that now. Luke had been wandering the Dreamlands since he's carried the Dreambox. But now the lands were being torn apart; Luke had disturbed and stumbled upon too many things. Now the Lord of Sleep was waking and would close them to him forever. He had to do something...

Abilities: Action: Move to a space containing a Gate that corresponds to the current Omen.
During the Encounter Phase, you may spend 1 Focus or 1 Sanity to encounter a Gate on your space as if there are no Monsters on your space.
Items
Dream Box (Asset/Trinket-magical) When you close a Gate during an Other World Encounter, gain 1 Focus. If the gate corresponds to the current Omen, recover 1 Sanity.

Your insomnia has been getting worse. And you can't blame it on the unexpected food in this part of the world. No matter how much you try to get a decent night's sleep, you can't, and it's been affecting your abilities as a researcher. You even seriously considered opium to help you... but even if you hadn't read The Good Earth, or studied any of the papers on the subject, now that you're in the Orient, you've been able to see its effects firsthand.

At least you're not alone in your sleeplessness; Dr. Magnouser had been feeling it as well, and suspected that it has an otherwordly source, which was how you were able to wheedle the finances for this trip, despite the economic disaster that has befallen the world.

Some of the locals blame it on a unearthly being they call the "Great Dreamer", if you understand them correctly. When you confess ignorance, they direct you to a monastery up the mountains.



Dexter
Your time with the Dōng hǔ monks broadened your horizons and taught you how to control and focus your qi. But the harmony of the monastery has slowly eroded. Master Dong Su belives it is the work of Wěidà de mèngxiǎng jiā, and because of your understanding of the outside world, sent you on a mission to seek out some means to return this powerful being to his long slumber. But you hadn't gotten any further than Tokyo before a telegram catches up to you from one Miss Mandy Thompson, asking for your assistance.



Luke
While you are dreaming, everything seems so real and sure. But when you wake, holding on to the fragments of reality that try to slip through your fingers seems so impossible. Yet you remember a few faces: a warrioress reborn, a wielder of magic, and a seeker of truth.

These lands you have been walking in have seemed far more real to you than those of Earth. But it seems like it is time to walk in both worlds now.



Agnes
You've been studying your dreams for a decade now, learning about your past lives. But your sleep has started to be troubled, and dreams have turned cloudy, and your have been interrupted with pure nonsense.

But last night, as your dreams rememberd a battle where you were casting a spell, that was stopped as a flock of seagulls flew down and carried you to a tiny island no bigger than your flat, with all of one palm tree on it, you noticed a man in robes, and realized that he had been watching you the entire dream. As you looked at him, he gazed off into the distance, and gave you a name, and an address in Tokyo.

And when you woke up, you quickly wrote down the information, and sent off a telegram to Mr. Dexter Drake.

Mystery: If you are on a dream portal, you may discard that portal to draw a Dream within a Dream encounter card. You need two tokens on the mystery to solve it.

Lucky Talisman is replaced by Item 1d127 = (94) = 94 Private investigator.

Waiting to see if Dexter takes anything from reserve first. Luke will probably focus, try to get something from the reserve and then try for the gate, probably fighting the cultist first.

Abilities: Action: Move to a space containing a Gate that corresponds to the current Omen.
During the Encounter Phase, you may spend 1 Focus or 1 Sanity to encounter a Gate on your space as if there are no Monsters on your space.
Items
Dream Box (Asset/Trinket-magical) When you close a Gate during an Other World Encounter, gain 1 Focus. If the gate corresponds to the current Omen, recover 1 Sanity.

FWIW, the gate that would have spawned in London (and the monster spawned with it) were moved to the sideboard, so you won't have any combat.

Your ability to avoid monsters only works during the encounter phase, and you're not on a city, either. So gaining from the reserve isn't an option right now.

Since Agnes has declared her actions, and nobody else is going to be able to get anywhere near you, feel free to do the combat rolls yourself, if you're not going to use your ability to bypass the cultist.

He hasn't made any rolls yet, so yes. However, this will naturally prevent you from working on the mystery, as the dream portal is in London (but does allow you to try the dream quest.)

However, in order to take on the cultist before Luke's turn, you would need to become lead investigator (which is allowable), meaning you would have to choose to attempt the gate or not before you would know if he would succeed at closing it.
