Hello and Welcome Back!

Came to the decision to test/play again pretty quickly after the 1st 'release version' game wrapped. Add in another poor weather day at work that seemed to make my dice that much easier to find. But, I didn't want to just do 'game 1, round 2'. So I asked myself,"How can I make this different, but still a valid test?" After about 5 min., it was pretty easy to decide what to change: play the 'opposite end' of the spectrum, and pit my Chickadees against 'last year's' basement dwellers: the Broad Street Peacocks!

As for rules, I wanted another test-type situation, so I tried to keep the setup as close to last time as possible. But, to keep with the spirit of opposites, I decided on a small change:
d10-0 Starting Pitchers: both teams will use the bottom slot(#5 in the rotation).
d10-0d10-0 Bullpen: both teams' best reliever, by pitch die, were not available to throw. There was a tie on both squads, which was broken on the Peacocks by Trait & broken on the Chickadees by handedness/Batter target.
Also of note:
d10-5 Park Bonus: same as before, I used the Team Score simulation rule to decide the hosting location. With a roll of 34, Crystal Creek Park opened its gates to the Birds from Nashville.

So how'd it go? If I summed it up in one sentence, I'd go with,"The game the bats went silent." If I summed it up in one word, it's obviously, "Box Score!"

..not much to say about this one. The Peacocks just put in a little more effort than S.C.'s squad. A quick moment of silence for Mr. Ian White, however, who was absolutely MURDERED in the batter's box.............
OK. As promised, my random thoughts on the test run(s) of Deadball: the release version:

1)The area where the pitcher is rolling a d4, but sometimes its a +, and sometimes its a -, is really swing-y. I fully support the d0 dPitch level!
2)The Pitch Out and Pick Off 2-player rules need an expansion/adjustment in order to better counter-balance base-stealing.
3)Southpaws (should)make stealing 2nd more difficult(prolly a -1).
4)Southpaws (should)get +1 to pick off a runner on 1st. Conversely, a righty (should)get +1 to pick off a runner on 3rd.
5)Hit table results: 0(P- hitters)= Single, runners do NOT advance, unless forced. -1(P-- hitters)= Single, DEF(P) {successful DEF should be scored 1-3 or P/L1} 21=HR Batter's BT is +1 until next strikeout(K) 22=HR Batter's BT is +X(X=# of runs scored by HR) {not sure if this should be permanent or, as above, until next K...}.
6)Defense Table: 11 should result in an out, but in a different way. Something like "The lead runner is OUT". This should/could expand the "Hit goes down a level" results to 9-10. Needs more dev time.
7)Base Stealing Table: 9=Defensive Indifference(does not count as a SB)
8)Hit Table again: 18=Triple DEF is odd/even for RF/CF. Should be LF checks for R batters and RF for L batters. (ehh, why not? DEF check CF for S batters!)
9)LAST RANDOM THOUGHT-More than once, I ended up with an MSS > 99. Having this only affect the chance for a Triple Play is not exciting enough for such a HUGE defensive/pitching domination. Sooooo....INJURY CHANCE! Roll d100: add player age plus the amount the batter's MSS exceeded 100(MSS-100). Roll above this sum=batter OK!(no effect) Roll below sum=batter injured!(roll on Injury Table(pg. 40)

Great! Thanks again for the wall o' text crawl. What's next? Maybe one more(solo) game, a look at the 5-tool/player generation system(I have a certain FANTASY team in mind...) and then...the great work can begin.sauron
