Hi all, just getting into this game which is awesome but had a couple of questions come up. 1 - is there a distance restriction friendly units (not figures) have to be close to each other . For example can friendly units be adjacent to each other or do they have to remain at least very short distance apart.

2- When firing at a unit thats in woods , is there a restriction on distance that you can fire through the woods. For instance if the unit is on one end of the woods and the firing unit is on clear ground on the other side of the woods , can it still fire.?

There is no restriction to how close friendly units can be to one another. As a gaming rule, players tend to small gaps between units as to tell them apart.

A unit is not allowed to fire through woods because woods block line of sight and line of fire. A unit outside of woods can see (and shoot at) a unit anywhere inside of woods. Remember that the maximum size of woods is L, and that no distance measured across any and all of the woods terrain piece can exceed L. In short, the largest any wood can be is a perfect circle of L diameter.

Hi Ray ,thanks for your reply and answers. Just to clarify about the woods , it doesnt matter where in the woods a unit is , it can be fired upon by a unit up to large distance away . So basicalyy there is no distance restriction on firing into woods other than the restriction of the firing units range.

That is correct. Basically you measure range from each of your shooting figures. If the line crosses the perimeter of the terrain feature twice, the shot is blocked. In short, you can see into a high area terrain feature but not through it. The target of course gets the benefit of cover - light or heavy, see page 22. Also, remember that there are maximum sizes for scenery items. The widest/longest points of terrain cannot exceed this limit.

See page 30 of the Saga rules. The high area terrain in the diagram can be woods, hill (elevation), or even a building.

Also, if you have Saga: The Crescent & the Cross, see page 40.

Hope this helps.
