Hi - I didn't see this anywhere:

Does anyone play in the vein of Mage Wars or Codex without hiding the tiles?

In other words, having all tiles available all the time?

Does it work or would it break the game...?

I play with the variant mentioned in the rulebook.
6 open tiles instead of 3. It adds a good amount of strategy to the game.

I dimly remember trying it once or twice with my wife long ago (or maybe just talking about doing it...?). If we did try it, apparently it didn't impress us sufficiently to keep doing it regularly.

(Somewhat similarly we tried a few games of Kingdom Builder without random draws - simply choose which of the 5 terrains you want each turn - and it worked OK - but we returned to the standard rules.)

In my opinion it would break the game. The core mechanism in Neuroshima is that you don't know when your best tiles will come up, but you have to anticipate and prepare yourself for good and bad draws. And some tiles would be just too powerful having them at your disposal all the time, example being Moloch bomb I strongly advise you to play as written, balance in this game is really well done and you have a lot of options to mitigate luck of a draw. That's my point of view meeple

As written with 6 tiles? I agree.

Maybe I will try this variant in the future. I played this game 600 times in total and I don't feel any need yet laugh

That's the only way we play now and it doesnt break the game. It is just like playing normally and you would just happen to draw the 3 tiles you wanted.
