Poll
It is no secret one of the main reason some people enjoy RSP is the humor. We all know that sarcasm it hard convey through written word, yet we all try from time to time.

What percentage of your posts would would you consider "funny" or sarcastic?

90-100% "Me, I'm Neeeever sarcastic."
80-90% "I try to be serious all the time, rely I do."
70-80% "The main problem with RSP is that none of you have a good sense of humor."
60-70% "I want to 'answer responsibly', I just can't."
50-60% "When given the option of a serious post or be a goofball my inner goofball wins every time... usually... sometimes... hell most of the time."
40-50% "I like to be funny and will post a 'funny' when need arises."
30-40% "I don't look for opportunities to be funny, but I'll hit softball out of the park every time."
20-30% "I only do funny posts when I know that my audience will 'get it', I'm risk adverse in the humor department.
10-20% "I want to post funny stuff but find myself unwilling to hit the send/save button."
1-10% "seldom if ever, my shirts are well starched and my tie is tied to a appropriate length."
0% "Never, that kind of superfluousness should be reserved for chit-chat. Now get a real job and 'Git awf my lawn'."

There is no try.

(I'm British. Sarcasm is our default mode, when not being ironic.)

I was going to do this as a 'nominate and award' type thing like the Espys's for the athletically challenged. After brief consideration I decided that it would require work, upper end cognitive function and an attention span that is longer than 30 seconds.

When you see someone laugh and crack a joke, you can immediately tell if they are affiliated with the conservative or liberal party.

There is definitely something to this; during the discussions of banning and toxicity I definitely saw many posts that were "humorously" attacking a previous poster's position. Whether I found these posts funny was fairly dependent on whether I agreed with the underlying sentiment.

It wasn't really humor, it was passive aggressive attacks. one of the 'best' ways to make a passive aggressive attack is through the 'it's only a joke' method.

Actual humor between people who like each other is a great way to discuss tough subjects.

Humor isn't inherently toxic the from whom and to whom can make it so. IMHO this is a forum where it is unwise to assume the poster is posting anything toxic for the sake of toxicity alone. That being said personal attacks disguised as humor against a person with whom you are not familiar are often 'toxic adjacent'. Are the Bitcoin 'in' jokes toxic?

Is dark or gallows humor toxic? I work with elderly patients every day. Often when I'm in a different clinic I whisper near my co-worker's ear "I see old people" (a Sixth Sense reference). One could argue that it is 'toxic' if they do they need a chill-ax transplant.

I have some friends that are definitely going to be visited by Death in the next few years. They know it. I know it.

They love to make death jokes - sometimes for hours. They feel better afterwards, because laughter defangs the reality of it.

I pity those that can't provide and administer that salve for their own wounds.
