We just played a four-player with no cave.

The applicable rules are "Any 3 Roles - vs. Thief".

It says, "use the setup, rules, and victory conditions listed in the corresponding variant listed in the 3 Players section."

I assume the correct one to use is "Any 2 Roles - vs. Thief".

It says, "use the setup, rules, and victory conditions listed in the corresponding variant listed in the 2 Players section."

But which one is the corresponding variant in the 2 Players section?

Thanks,
John

You've got the first part wrong. You would use the rules for the 3-player game with no Thief player. So you would use the rules for the "Dragon, Knight, and Goblins" 3-player game, then add any specific rules from the "Any 3 Roles - vs. Thief".

Similarly, for "Any 2 Roles + Thief", you would use the 2 Player game (without the Thief), thus a Knight, Dragon, Thief game would use the "Knight vs Dragon" rules plus any special rules from the "Any 2 Roles + Thief" game.

The rules are written that way since The Thief is an add-on role to the basic game (which is Dragon, Knight, Goblins, Cave) and doesn't affect the other players' goals. (as opposed to the other roles...if the Knight is missing, the Goblins fight the Dragon and not the Knight, if the Dragon is missing, the Knight fights the Cave and not the Dragon, etc)

If you haven't, a 4 player game (sans theif) is really fun.
