I have 6 people in my biweekly gaming group and sometimes they all show, which limits our choices. 7 Wonders has been our go-to for that many people but it's getting old.

Anyone have recommendations for games that work particularly well for a "2 3-player games at once" approach?

My hope would be that we could complete 3 or so games in a 3-hour evening, swapping players between the two groups, and that noise generated by each group would add to the fun of the other rather than being an annoying distraction.

Other games that are popular with this group: Dominion, Roll for the Galaxy, Innovation. I'm pondering setting up two 3-player games of Dominion on different tables and then after those are completed, leave the kingdoms in place and do a complete player swap, so each 3 play together again on a completely fresh kingdom. Probably worth it for novelty value but it's not as cross-group-interactive as I'd like.

I had a group of 8 come over with a wide variety of experience playing games. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to borrow the welcome game, but my plan had been to have two teams of 4 racing to complete forbidden island. Obviously, the games aren't going to be set up exactly equal, but I thought that might be a fun way to compete over a cooperative game (and one game can be bought on sale for cheap). Still want to try it out sometime!

For concurrent 3p games:

+1 Small World
+1 Carcassonne
+1 Smash Up tourney-style (mix and rotate various factions between games)

Pandemic
Grizzled
Lords of Waterdeep

From the above list that can also play 6p, games run approximately 1-1.25 hours:

Carcassone + Inns/Cathedrals
LoW + Scoundrels

For all 6, multiple plays within 3 hours:

Bohnanza
A racing game of some kind - I prefer GMT's Thunder Alley, lighter option is Formula De

All 6, one play in 3 hours, by weight (lightest to heaviest):

History of the World
Game of Thrones
Dune/Rex

While I do usually prefer playing 2 x 3-player games, I do own a number of quicker, quality 6-player games specifically because we enjoy them with 6:

Show Manager
Winner's Circle
Viva Pamplona!
Wits & Wagers
6 nimmt!
Pick Picknic
Lifeboats
Cockroach Poker
Snorta!
