you may simply ignore him. He's strange.

BGG's rating system is robust enough to allow for a number of strange people. meeple

EDIT: post edited because I got a warning for using the wrong words ... wrong words removed.

It's possible, but just not worth the cost. There are too many honest ratings, for weird ratings to affect anything.

or just in a different way to how you do it.

Get over it. Ratings are mostly meaningless anyway. Do you like the game? Does someone you know who likes the same kind of games as you like the game? That's really all you need to know.

The administration has investigated this case, and concluded that the user stayed within BGG guidelines. And so let him be. He hasn't rated anything since, I believe.

No. How would you establish such things? Many people are overloading the ratings with all sorts of cruft because it's one of the few searchable fields on this site. Should they be moderated as well?

Perhaps there truly are over 7,000 crap games out there?

Munchkin and its expansions alone make up about 6,000 of that.

The last two words of your thread title are redundant.

There is a perfectly reasonable explanation for why he does this.

He is using the rating system to flag games he is interested in or not (10 = interested in, 1 = not). He marks all games he investigates so as to keep track of the games he has looked into (games with any rating don't need to be investigated again).

This seems like a great way to do it to me. I might consider adopting it.

These ratings could be handled in many ways through a formula. (not that I'm saying they are handled here.)

Not to re-ring a bell that has already been rung, but a user can use their Wishlist for that sort of game tracking, without having an impact on the ratings.

That doesn't help on obscure games or expansions that have few or even one rating.

The ratings should just give a rough indication of how likely an individual is to re-play a game, and as as such have some meaning. It's the rankings that are meaningless.

I see no reason why those with reduced IQ scores would like the question, "is it not possible to moderate the way people skew ratings by rating randomly, vindictively or just unfairly (?)".

I think some fairly normal range IQ people might like that question however. Such people I abhor as they are the sort of people who stand in the way of me getting Nine Men's Morris the ratings it deserves.
