Ah, has it been 2 weeks already.

If you really care, you must ask the person.

Anyone can rate any game with any number as long as you do it from one account only.

There are a bunch of reasons to choose to rate a game "1".

Also see:
Any way to report a User Account?
Can we cut off user ratings until a game has actually been released?
Introduce the "played" status for more fine-grained collection management.

It's their own personal rating. They can do what they want. Maybe its 7000 games they think are amazing with 1 player? Maybe 7000 games they want to play, and their own rating system marks these as "1" for easy reference? Maybe 7000 games that they just want to rate 1 because they can? Maybe they are watching this thread and laughing, thinking "lol another one! This is fun!" Who cares? People can rate anything they want, whatever they want, for any reason they want. Great system.

Ahh sorry if this comes up a lot blush

I can see that people should be allowed to rate any game in anyway they wish.

I just feel a little sorry for the independent designers who are trying to get a rep for producing good games.

Haha welcome to BGG

Yeah it does suck for the small time designers who end up affected. However - if people click to see who rated, they will take it with a pinch of salt. This user is pretty renowned for rating everything a 1

If you are of the opinion that you either Like or Dislike a game and prefer to have no grey area between then Rating 1 or 10 is perfectly logical.

However, if you prefer to rate a game on how likely you'd want to play it if it were available, then the range 1-10 makes more sense.

Because it is much easier to rate something with either a yes or no.

I have friends that say 10 or even five are too many ratings to decided from. Sort of like how now netflix has dropped from a 5 star rating to just a thumbs up thumbs down on some of their UIs.

If I had to guess this user just uses a thumbs up thumbs down model.

I am not sure it affect 'independent designers'. I am willing to bet this is the type of profile that gets 'dropped' by the 'shill busting' algorithm.

Those users are still actual users. I'm sure it helps the BGG admins user base count when they're trying to pitch to advertisers to pay for ad space on their site.

Not saying it's right, but it does come with the job.

A sore finger.

Think of how many games you could have played in the time it takes to submit 10,000 ratings.

I don't understand is why someone would rate thousands of games they have clearly never even seen, let alone played.

Is there a sister thread to this where we question people who give ratings to the hundredths demical place? "Hmm... this game is clearly .02 better than the other..."

Maybe not thaaaaat related to this, but '10 or 1' is a social phenomenon of sorts with rating systems in general (eg IMDB, BGG etc).

Max and min values get an unproportionate number of votes(reverse bell curve) due to the general egos of those voting, example:

GAME is currently an 8, but Dickwad thinks GAME should be a 6. So instead of actually voting it a 6, Dickwad votes it a 1 in order to maximize his influence and bring the average closer to what he believes it should be.

Happens in every rating system and there isn't really a fix for this problem.

Some people just have really sad lives and this brings a little bit of happiness back to them by being able to share their misery with others.

What's that saying. Sharing is caring?

I think I remember on one of these similar threads that a moderator said they were in talks with the user. Whether the user explained his actions, failed to respond or just replied with a "1" message is unknown.
