Hi everyone! I will keep it short and sweet so as not to bore you all with details until the appropriate time (no need for a War & Peace novel until I've warranted your interest in the idea and/or my street cred if called for).

So here's the idea thats been in development for a few months already...

It is a HYBRID tabletop/app game about paranormal investigation (aka "ghost hunting"). It revolves around four game elements;

1} The main "vortex" board, a quadfold game board that keeps track of the teams (players) markers and also the light/dark energy ebb and flow. More on that later,

2) The Tile Matrix, a custom collection by each team member that consists of over 60 pieces of equipment and abilities that can be used solo or combined to create new and more potent inventory. This ranges from physical equipment like EMF meters, to psychic abilities and everything in between!

3) Atmopshere Cards, 48+ changes to the environment, team psyche and hidden perils/karma that bring an element of surprise and realism to th game.

4) The "Lexicon", any Android device dropped into the middle of the board that drives ghost/entity AI, all number crunching, turn and round pacing as well as jump scares, evidence review, and all ambience/music/sfx.

The talent involved in this project includes many years of graphic design experience, sound engineering, and game mechanics experience going back 4 decades. The main consultants in the game have over 10 years of direct paranormal investigation experience in the field with high community support and decades of occult knowledge that contributes to the scary realism of what we're undertaking.

We felt the "hybrid" concept was necessary for a couple reasons; board games foster the imaginative, theatre-of-the-mind foundation we felt would generate the SCARIEST imagery... far more so than anything we could wish from a graphic artist. Board games also bring an organic, tangible, collaboration between players that is REQUIRED in real paranormal investigation scenarios. On the flipside, computer apps bring tension/jump-scares, atmospheric music/sfx, and unparalleled opponent artificial intelligence. Interweaving the best of BOTH concepts brings to life a more real yet scary experience that mimics real paranormal investigation but dispenses with the HOURS of audio/review, sketchy client interviews as well as the REAL danger that investigators face everyday.

We have our initial artwork well on its way as well as the pre-testplay "crunch" being worked on as we speak. The original music/sfx are currently in works from a pro musician with two decades of stage/installation experience and we have over 4000 followers from our paranormal community connections.
Not trying to sound presumptive, but does anyone want to know more? Here's some pics of the board, tile and card decks so far.

Re: Ghost Hunting Board Game... humble beginigs seeking astute community advice
Yeah, although paranormal has a lot in common with another derivative of normal to me, I'm very interested in the pairing of digital and analogue. I'm guessing the game / app mechanics could be applied to other themes and likely a important niche in future gaming activity. A quick vid might communicate more than text. Thanks

Re: Ghost Hunting Board Game... humble beginigs seeking astute community advice
Sure, a video demonstration is being story-boarded as well and will be posted probably within a month from now. We didnt want to show too much of a GUI that would likely change a few times before a semi-final prototype. To clarify the role of the app (Android first, then ios), we are trying to steer as much gameplay as we can away from the app where appropriate to not steal and dictate too much of the experience... This is NOT an app based game and intended to be the other way around with the app supporting things like atmosphere and VERY basic number crunching. It will look and feel eerie but will not drive 90% of the game content.
Oddly enough, NO floor plans or maps are given to the team. The residences are randomly generated, 5 different types of entities, multiple scenarios and evidence is lined up, all in all creating over 380 cases to remedy. The app is upgradable to include more locations for bigger challenges (prisons, sanitariums, etc) along with the addition of new tiles and cards whenever we want to expand it. The team is expected to assign a mapper, medical person, historian,etc along with the core path of either Investigator (tech equipment) or a Sensitive (psychic talents and metaphysics).
We will def add more here as its produced but also wanted to include any suggestions the gaming community would like to see in a title like this. Thanks everyone!
