Are the german editions and the english editions compatible? On the counters and the boards, there is no text anyway, isn't it?
On our English edition, the character counters have only the move/fight values and the name of the character
ie Wizard, Mekanork, Goblin, Warrior, Wall-Walker, Cleric, Troll, Thief.
Similarly, the object counters have the name of the object along with a picture
ie Treasure, Speed Potion, Rope, Fireball Wand, Sword, Armour
The rules discuss the special powers of each character and item by name, so someone will need to be able link the rules to the counters.
Also, the player screen (used as a screen only during setup) has a summary of the special effects of everything on the back which is of course mostly written.
Finally, each player has a deck of cards which also have one or two words on them...
"2 Actions" (also 3/4/5 Actions)
"Combat +1" (also +2/3/4/56)
"Combat +0 Do not discard after Combat"... there is only one Combat 0 each and unlike other Combat cards you keep it after you use it.
"Jump Cost 1AP"... jumping costs an action point (not a movement point) and this is written on the card.
Edit: The boards have no text at all.
I hope this helps.

I played with someone using english basic box and french extensions, all all was fine.
Only the scrolls could be confusing at first, otherwise, everything should be ok.
