If you had to pick just one single shelf of games to be the only games you could ever play for the rest of your life which shelf would you choose? And no resorting games onto different shelves,Pick with however they are organized right now.

For me it's a tough choice between the shelf with most my casual/gateway/card games which I get to play more often and are packed into fewer boxes so that I could get to keep 36 games. And the shelf with more of my favorites.

I think I would have to go with my favorite shelf. It contains:Android: Mainframe,Blokus,Raptor ,TZAAR +Homemade pieces to also play GIPF ,DVONN ,ZÈRTZ ,and YINSH with the TZARR set,Kamisado , a box of Looney Pyramids with rules and components to play about 80 games, Cry Havoc ,Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island ,Suburbia and Imperial Settlers .

I just like Looney Pyrimids,Kamisado and Robinson too much to choose anything else.Even though this would unfortunately mean leaving behind Steam which is one of my other most favorite games and an unplayed Through the Ages: A New Story of Civilization which would probably be one of my favorite if I ever got to actually play it.

Also I would never get to introduce new people to Sushi Go! or play Wits & Wagers and Time's Up! Title Recall! at parties, what a dark world this would be. I hope I never need to make this choice for real..What bleak limited gaming future would you choose for yourself?

I just put up new shelves and got all the games squared away so this is pretty good timing for me. If I could re-arrange, I'd include a wider variety (Catan, Robo Rally, Crayon Rails), but this would be my choice as it stands:

I use the Kallax knockoff from Walmart so my "shelf" is actually a cube, but the one I went with includes Scythe, Concordia, Viticulture with Tuscanny, and Through the Ages: A New Story of Civilization. This was actually a tough choice as some of my favorite games are divided between cubes because of box sizes so I can make everything fit. The cube I chose however gives me a variety of complexity and length while include two of my favorite games.

I also have a cube shelf, but the cubes are pretty small. So my cube of choice contains only 4:

Agricola
Castles of Burgundy
Puerto Rico
Race For the Galaxy

For me it would be my top right shelf. Unfortunately that would cull both my #1 and #2 games, but the rules state I can't re-shuffle and those sit on a smaller shelf

The games on that shelf are:
Near and Far
Above and Below
City of Iron: Second Edition
The Ancient World
Ethnos
Imperial Settlers
Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island
Champions of Midgard

Edit: How did I miss Islebound?

Since this is for the rest of my life, and playgroups are never assured, I had to go with the shelf which contains my favorite gateway games, so I could be most likely to find people to play them with. Luckily it also has a few of my overall faves and some heavier games:

The gateway games:
Ticket to Ride: Europe
Santorini
Small World
Ingenious
Tales of the Arabian Nights
Codenames
Love Letter

The faves:
Pandemic
Roll for the Galaxy
RoboRally
Hive Pocket
Star Realms

The heavy-hitters:
Eclipse
Android: Netrunner

Also, since the rules didn't specify otherwise, I have chosen to interpret them to mean that I am allowed to purchase expansions for these games.

This thought experiment does not work with me since a) many of the games I'd choose have large boxes or don't even fit on a standard shelf (Fields or Arle, The Gallerist, Roads and Boats, Gloomhaven, etc), and b) I need variety to keep up my interest and besides I fully expect at least a few of my eventual "top 5" / desert island type games to be published in the future, so why even think of restricting myself to what I have now?

Bottom left for me. It has the following:

Suburbia
Deus
Stockpile
Agricola (Revised Edition)
At the Gates of Loyang
Glass Road

If you are generous with the word shelf (it doesn't have a divider, but it is nearly 4ft wide in our TV stand) and consider the bottom right of the shelf it would also include Schotten Totten, Money!, La Granja: No Siesta, Linko!, Elements, What's My Word?, Biblios, Wildlife Safari, For Sale, Codenames, San Juan (second edition), Raj, Fjords, Four Tribes, Hive Pocket and TransAmerica.

That'd keep me quite content.

Good choice,I think you win the best variety award,

Whichever shelf Dominion is on.

It's not my favourite game, but it is close and I am always up for playing it. It's my desert island game. I just hope a Vital Lacerda game is on the same shelf.

<----- only has one game shelf... shake

(...plus a couple of games on the floor)

So without the option to sneak in one of the ones from the floor that would be: Stone Age, Mysterium, Balloon Cup, Village Royalty, Bohnanza, Port Royal and Beyond Balderdash.

The shelf also contains Ticket to Ride Map Collection: Volume 1 – Team Asia & Legendary Asia but it's no good without Ticket to Ride: Europe (currently on loan to Dad).

My top shelf. Definitely.

gamer games:
Magic Realm
Three Kingdoms Redux
Dungeon Lords
Wallenstein (second edition)
Spyrium
Empire Engine

Family/Party games:
Love Letter
Coup
The Resistance
Codenames
Blokus Trigon
Codenames: Pictures
Ingenious
Monopoly: Pokémon Johto Edition
SET

I have these games on my top shelf so i can have easy access to them.

next i would keep my 2nd shelf, 2 player games and Co-ops.
3rd and 4th i could do without (i like the games, but.... see above)

bottom shelf is my MtG collection. would be sad to lose it.

I don't really have game shelves per se. I have 3 large drawers, a coffee table 'shelf', 3 games on my TV stand, and 2 games on a tiny shelf. Admittedly, the two games are really the games I'd want to play most (Trajan & Viticulture), but I am not sure I could be happy with only two board games.

I think I'd go with my coffee table:
- Five Tribes
- Pandemic
- Mission Red Planet
- CV
- Village
- Roll for the Galaxy
- Smash Up
- LOTR Fellowship Deckbuilder

I would really be choosing this set for the diversity of games and for the presence of some big favorites (Five Tribes, Pandemic, Roll for the Galaxy, Village). The other games I am less enamored with but I do like, with the exception of Smash Up, which I've never actually played (...it's been sitting & waiting to be played for a long time).

I think I'd have to go with my Rosenberg shelf:

Agricola with Agricola: Farmers of the Moor
Le Havre with Le Havre: Le Grand Hameau
Ora et Labora
At the Gates of Loyang
Glass Road
A Feast for Odin

*edit* just realized this shelf also contains Carcassonne with many expansions. Suffice it to say, the Rosenberg shelf would have won out with or without Carcassonne.

It just slightly beat out:

Homesteaders
Keyflower with Keyflower: The Farmers
Thurn and Taxis
Puerto Rico
Trajan
The Castles of Burgundy
Orléans
Caylus

Which just slightly edged out:

Viticulture with Tuscany: Expand the World of Viticulture and Viticulture: Moor Visitors Expansion
Scythe
Roma and Arena: Roma II
Tigris & Euphrates
Minerva
Sheriff of Nottingham
Raiders of the North Sea
Karmaka
