I'm in a pirate mood but can't decide what to pull the trigger on, or really what my options are outside of something of like Jamaica. Thoughts??

Thanks!
Chris

(Ps I mostly play with 2-3 players)

Take a look at Libertalia it has a really good pirate feel without being too complex.

Since you already named Jamaica ....

Second vote for Merchants & Marauders !

If you want something lighter, Black Fleet !

If you're down for heavier ... I've backed The Pirate Republic and have high hopes. Specifically, I'm hoping it's a more accessible version of Blackbeard ... or Blackbeard.

On the lighter side, but our favorite pirate game by far, Pirates of the 7 Seas

Dead Men Tell No Tales

just got mentioned in another thread, so I looked it up, and sure looks cool to me. I haven't played it, though.

In no particular order.

Tides of Infamy
Islebound
Rum & Bones

I should say that I do not have many Pirate themed games in my collection and these may be the only 3.

I'd like to at least mention an OOP game, but easily found for cheap, is the Pirates of the Spanish Main. The packs are easy to find and usually really cheap and I've spent many, many hours playing 2 and 3 player pirate ship battles, passing off cursed treasure, avoiding sea monsters and English fort placements.

If you're looking for something that doesn't take up a lot of space, offers some great tabletop warfare, and is easy to pick up, give it a look.

Stay thirsty, my friend...

I, too, would recommend Blackbeard--but this edition and not the earlier one.

+1 for Black Fleet although I think it is arguably best with 4 (the designer's 2-player variant is fine though.)

I think this is a better game than Merchants & Marauders, but it doesn't capture the pirate/seafaring theme nearly as well (or much at all really).

+1. Beautiful design, great components, awesome insert, really solid game!

It also works well with 3 players (that's the only way I've ever played it)!

I have more Pirate games than I thought and they all are good.
Merchants and Marauders
Rum and Bones 1st and 2nd waves
Libertalia
Francis Drake

Merchants and Marauders is the best of the bunch but as it is a longer game Rum and Bones gets played more....

Skull Tales is a great adventure game that includes character leveling and asymmetrical player powers. Semi co-op since you are all working to get the most loot and to become the captain. Has 3 "phases" in the adventures, the islands that your characters are exploring for goals, the seafaring phase traveling and battling on the high seas, and the pirate base or town phase, where you get the new missions, upgrade the ship, etc. Rules are a little rough to understand in sections, but the game is a lot of fun once you get them figured out!
