I had the good fortune of picking this game up at Origins, and have been enjoying it a lot. After several plays, the Bishop card seems a bit disruptive compared to other similar cards, at least to our group. Here is a variant we've been playing that works for us:
"The player targeted by the Bishop must choose one Character in his or her Guild to give to the Bishop."
This still keeps the Bishop powerful and influential, but gives players a chance to defend by keeping a weak character in their Guild.
