Hi All,
I have just tried installing RtL on my Samsung S8+ and besides the application wanting permissions to make calls (WTF!), F-Secure intervenes with the install and pops up a warning stating:

Potentially unwanted application
Application
Road To Legend

Package Name
com.fantasyflightgames.rtl

Problems detected
Android/Dowgin.cdc421af52!Online

Size
22593.1KB

Further Googling of Android/Dowgin reveals stuff like the following (from Symantec):

Updated:
February 27, 2015 3:19:08 PM
Type:
Adware
Risk Impact:
High
Systems Affected:
Android

Android.Dowgin is an advertisement library that is bundled with certain Android applications.

This advertisement library may perform the following actions:

Display advertisements in the system notification bar
Download and execute external components in the host application
Download and request installation of new applications
Send details about installed applications to a remote location
Send device information such as International Mobile Station Equipment Identity (IMEI), kernel version, phone manufacturer, or phone model details to a remote location

Questions:
1. Has anyone else come across this?
2. Why would the app want to have access to make calls etc?
3. Is FFG aware that their software uses this adware library and if so why?

Edit:
This link has more details from F-Secure.
https://www.f-secure.com/sw-desc/adware_android_dowgin_onlin...
It would seem that they are using it for ads and/or to collect information without my knowledge. Both are a no-no in my books and the app will not got installed on my phone. FFG should not need to hawk ads with RtL or at least let us pay for a version that does not have ads/data leakage.

Yes. They use it to notify you of additional content. Asmodee uses a similar application process and its why games such as COlt Express and others will push notify you of sales and to buy their new applications.

The iPhone version does the same, difference is Android is honest about it.

Perhaps they should use a library that is not tagged as suspicious by a number of anti-virus/anti-malware companies.

On Android you can use an app like norootfirewall or netguard to block the RtL app from accessing the internet (no need to root your phone).

If you have root access it's even easier.

That's kind of the negative of apple iDevices, you don't get notifications of permissions like Android does.

Steam version should only be using the standard Steam notification software as far as I know.

It's always good to keep an eye on app permissions and security. That said, I long ago gave up any illusory hope that any of us have privacy in this era.
