Hello everyone,

I am having an intriguing game with my backers in which we need to solve some misterious puzzles that are linked together. Here is the first puzzle we received:

Quote:
Welcome to this important meeting, ambassadors!

We have intercepted some weird messages from the Rebellion’s side and M.I.N.D has delegated us to investigate. For now, M.I.N.D is unreachable, as he is using most of his server power for a high scan over the G.R.I.D. It is up to us to resolve this issue.

Our men managed to ambush a rebel convoy in the desert of Marubia as they were carrying this art pieces. Apparently Hugo's men were trying to burn them before they were captured. We believe they were carrying a hidden message to their Red King.

Each painting has it’s own stupid question attached. We need to figure this out, maybe the answer will make some sense. Maybe it will lead somewhere. We cannot wait for M.I.N.D on this one.

Alright, here goes. This is the first painting. The question seems pretty simple. I think I see 3 animals, but what do I know....

Quote:
By the way, on the back of this painting there was this text:

"Purple + Dark Red

Sep 29, 2014"

Not sure what to make of this situation. Will give you the next part once you manage to solve this one.

Good luck!

I thought that since we are all gamers here that you will want to join in the quest. Next clue comes later today.

New transmission!

Alright!

So what do we know so far? Not much, huh? Luckily we are doing more field work than you are doing decrypting. We raided a colony near that huge crash site, last month. You know the report? Anyway, guess what we managed to find? This little file here.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2dinuI3SPcBYTlqS29BSXhVb0U...

My men started cracking that password, and they managed to figure out that we need this format.

xxxxxx-x

But we got stuck. These rebels are really smart, but I believe we can do better. I also believe we have the answer in that painting as it was going straight towards that colony.

They know we are unto them, so they are hiding really well. We need to find their bases. Anyway, really hoping you can crack this file. I'll be back really soon from a mission on Kauko. You'd better have something for me by then.

Over and out!

Given my eyes are not going to be able to distinguish a lot of the pictures in the distance on this one, is the clue Purple + Dark Red some sort of clue where if a colour filter for those colours is applied we will only see the animals in question?

I'm at work so can't attempt any colour adjustments here.

Can't work out anything specific to the date at this stage, it's 93 days from the end of the year, but I can't see there being that many animals.

The birds in the upper right part are seagulls (wild) or messenger pigeons (domestic)?

The answer to that question may be inside the painting.

@Trent Boardgamer: Note that you can enlarge the image to see more details.

I am sure its incorrect as there is probably some hidden, but I see Six (4 Horses and a Cat and a Dog).

The painting is Winter Scene on a Frozen Canal by Dutch artist Hendrick Avercamp (1620).

The color mix could be maroon, red-violet, plum, or others.

For September 29, 2014, there were these somewhat notable deaths:
2014 – Miguel Boyer, Spanish economist and politician (b. 1939)
2014 – Andreas Fransson, Swedish skier (b. 1983)
2014 – Stan Monteith, American surgeon and author (b. 1929)
2014 – Luis Nishizawa, Mexican painter and educator (b. 1918)
2014 – John Ritchie, New Zealand composer and educator (b. 1921)
2014 – George Shuba, American baseball player (b. 1924)
CBS's morning headlines - http://www.cbsnews.com/news/this-morning-from-cbs-news-sept-....

None of it means anything to me. But maybe someone else will find a mental trigger.

The idea of a colour filter strikes me as being very strong.

The clue would then seem to point to a colour filter to use.

My guess is that the date is
Spoiler (click to reveal)
a hex code reference, to either 092914 or 290914, depending on using a US or UK date system.

The colour clue would then
Spoiler (click to reveal)
determine which of those two to use. 092914 is a greeny-kind of colour, but 290914 looks like Purple & Dark Red to me...?

As to actually applying the colour filter and looking for the animals, that's beyond my expertise...

You've all missed the obvious cat burglar on the near right side:

But as others said in the previous thread, I too see six - four horses and two dogs. I wondered whether those birds were pigeons as well, but they're rather large...

The two birds in the belt of the guy in front must be considered domesticated

Or he'd been hunting. He has a gun.

2 birds on the belt are worth 3 in the sky.

Argh, I can't open the file at work.

I'm assuming the code is 292014-6 (assuming 6 is the correct answer for domestic animals).

Or 290914-6.

290914-6 works...

Leads to lettered folders with colored number sets, some of which are purple and dark red.

Maybe an internet address or gps coordinates...

or degrees... Lake Tana in Ethiopia? Or somewhere in Jordan

Any chance someone can post the info here. I can't access it from work.

6 is the correct answer as it worked in the code to unlock the file.

Now we need to work out the puzzle from the folders in the file (Which I can't view at work, so I can't help for now).
