I have bought this game twice and ended up gifting both copies (2nd one unopened) as it is amazing and the recipients were worthy (1st went to an actor friend that was filming a pilot to a Neanderthal-based TV show, 2nd one to a brain specialist professor at a local University). I just thought I'd pick up another copy when I wanted to play it myself.

Well, now I do, and I can't find a new copy at the reasonable RRP price. It's out of stock at the OLGS here in the UK. Before I splash out on a used copy at a higher price does anyone here know if the game is having a reprint soon?

Cheers folks!

It hasn't been mentioned, as far as I'm aware. A reprint of Greenland has been mentioned, including the expansion, and that might depend on Phil's experimentation with Kickstarter.

The Megafauna 2/Genesis 2nd kickstarter has gone pretty well so far, but I imagine it'll be important to see a full end to end delivery before committing to too many of them.

I am considering a Kickstarter campaign for both Greenland and Neanderthal, using eskimo meeples instead of cubes and incorporating expansions. I talked to my KS campaign manager, Caezar of Alley Cat games, and we are tentatively trying for a campaign either in November or January.

Great news Phil! I'm sure there are a ton of folks in the community here that would support this project, myself included. One question I might ask, though, is "why Kickstarter?" You seem to have done quite well publishing games as Sierra Madre, and in my own limited perspective Kickstarter trades a little bit of "buzz" for a large chunk of the seed money they skim off the top.

Hey Phil,

Would you consider making the Neanderthal reprint more visually distinct from Greenland? I consider Neanderthal to be the better of the two, and think it deserves its own set of Icons rather than inheriting hand-me-down symbols from Greenland.

For me, the most important message in this post is that the current Kickstarter run by Caesar and Phil has been so far a success story begging to be replicated. This is great news indeed!

Yes, it is good news.
But that means delivery in 2018, possibly in the first half of the year, but I wouldn't count on it, so at least a yaer from now.
SO, for me at least, it won't fit in definition of "imminent reprint"
So the original poster ahould probably seek the game on the secondary market.
And if more games by SMG will be kickstarted, there will be better chance that printrun will be enough to meet the demand. and secondary market will be normal

Well, many thanks to Phil Eklund himself for weighing in here with some exciting news about a possible KS reprint - cheers.

As Rafal points out though, it will be awhile before that gets to delivery stage (I've no doubt the KS would fund), but it gives me something to mull over.

Thanks for all the replies, appreciated.

Casting a question in hope for an answer: Any possibility of a 4th player (Denisovans) for Neanderthal?

Four players is barely possible, If playtesters find it playable I might consider it. Unlike a 4 player Greenland, it would require a fairly extensive reassignation of daughter cards, currently divided up in the 3 species.

Moreover I had the impression that the Denisovians were Asian, not European.

I'm pretty sure the prevailing theory is that Denisovans are just Neanderthals that went east.

Thanks for the reply. I knew the possibility of 4 players was a long shot.

The inclusion of both red and green pieces (in both Neanderthal and Greenland) is a real problem for those who are colorblind. The friend I primarily play both games with can't tell the difference between the red and green pieces, and I've had to take to replacing one with the blue cubes from Bios: Genesis. Please, please, please use blue or while or black or something instead of either the red or the green in any reprints.

I just watched the Rahdo review of Neanderthal, I am a bit behind. I would back this kickstarter the day it went live. It looks incredible and I love science and historical type games.

Eagerly awaiting the prospect of getting a copy.

Thank you for you brilliant work Mr. Eklund!

It is an amazing game- if you like the look of it and the science and historical theme you should check out his other games. In particular, the new versions of Bios: Genesis and Bios: Megafauna are in the pre-order stage right now and will be able to tie into each other to make a mega-game if you want to, and which will also link into the new Origins that he plans to release next year as well (making a super-mega-game ), so you can follow life on the planet from creation up through to advanced civilisations. And then theoretically the 4th edition of High Frontier will allow you to tie that in also and move your species into space travel. And you also might check out Greenland as well- even though it isn't tied into the big Bios series, it has many similarities to Neanderthal and is another excellent game.

Please consider upgrade packs for existing owners. I'd love to have updated versions of both games but can't justify rebuying them and having out of date versions lying around that will be impossible to sell on.

And please consider those of us who have only one of the games currently (like me) and therefore would need one upgrade pack and the other full new game

Wiki details interbreeding with Neanderthals, but not the other 2, although the citations are now fairly old...

Awesome!!! I am in for that. I would be great if the solo play was a bit better than what I've seen/heard.

Neanderthal's solo game is pretty good. Even with the three subspecies staying out of each other's way, it can be challenging trying to get two tribes with domesticated animals. Greenland's solo play can literally be done doing absolutely nothing.
