I played my 38th game of Friday this morning, and I finally won! The first victory. What a rush. I think I got easy pirates, but I will take it. Sweet taste of victory!

So, all my gaming brothers and sisters out there, what is your 'first victory' tale? Anyone have a game that took more than 38 tries to beat? Never beat? Always win? I would love to hear the game and the story!

Mine is Friday - 38 tries to first victory.

Hmm... friday only took me 4 tries, not that hard unless you're talking winning on a level other than 1. Just trash a lot early in the game. Have played 12 now. Won 3 of the first 10. Played two games at level 2 now. Havnt won yet, but certain that win will come soon too. Will get harder and harder.
Edited: just won level 2 on my third try. On to level 3!

Ghost Stories (playing solo) took me 20 tries. That game is tough!

As crazy as this may sound to some on the forum, especially to those who view the game as overly luck-heavy, I probably won something like 2 of my first 50 games of Catan. Catan was the game that really introduced me to modern board gaming, and our group of friends got into it pretty heavily in college.

The fact was, two of my friends at the time were extremely seasoned at the game and were much more effective at identifying key locations to build, synergies between resources, and taking advantage of trades. I eventually got to a point where I now win more than my fair share of games with those two (~50% of 3-player games), and probably close to 80% of games (crazy as that sounds) with my broader group of friends - many of whom are now much newer to the game than I. While I realize that some may feel like these statistics are either inaccurate or just "fluky", there have been a significant number of games played (I would guess I probably have over 200 plays of the game) over literally years of time. Unfortunately, I have thus far been unsuccessful in my efforts to sway people into branching out and trying new games

I thought the same thing.

I won my first game today too (after about 7 plays).
