Very good. It scales to player count, and is quite great at 2 players.

I love the game. But it is definitely a different game at 2, vs 3 or higher. Two will play Anything you can do, I can do better. It is a balancing act on can you beat your opponent to the area scoring. When my wife and I played, we generally tied in most of the provinces. No one wanted to let the other get the points. Trying to keep the scoring at least even in the area was challenging as you tried to outdo your opponent in other areas...Orc tracks, Sets, etc. It is a tense tightrope. 8 and 10 point areas would see as many as 6 or more counter chips per player. Neither of us wanted to see the other get those 8 or 10 points. Plus...you run out of counter chips quickly in 2 player mode, so by early in the second round, all the counter chips have been placed and you are now playing for set collections, or Orc board points (if there are Orcs in the game).

I like 3 players or more better. My wife and I will probably pull this out when we have at least one other player, but as a 2 player game, we will likely pass over it in lieu of better 2 player games.

Still a great game that I am glad to have in my collection.

So not playing the 2 player rules then?

If there are 10 chips total, then it would take a band of 11 (or minotaurs) to place.

We are Playing 2 player rules.
There are only 2 Eras in 2 and 3 Player Rules Set.
But missed the parts about tokens with 2 players.
Still....you work hard to make sure your opponent does not get an advantage.
I will have to replay with my wife now that you have pointed out the limited tokens placement.
Thanks for pointing it out.
Still is a great game. We played it with my son over the weekend.

The token count rule in a 2 player game makes a huge difference to the area control aspect.
