Thinking of a new, variant trait to make the creatures more deadly .... behold "PREDATORY"!

All non-passive aquatic creatures gain "PREDATORY". They can smell blood in the water and hunt down wounded heroes.
Sensing WOUNDED heroes, these creatures ignore the usual movement rules on explored tiles (ie. the red die) and simply move one hex, taking the shortest route, towards the closest WOUNDED hero (ie. having at least one wound token on their hero sheet). The traits Juggernaut and Flying are still to be considered for passing through partial and blocked trails, respectively.
If faced with a tie between equally spaced heroes, the creature would move towards the most wounded hero - if tied for wounds, the players can decide which hero will attract the creature. If there are no WOUNDED heroes in the water/swamp, the creatures will move normally. Healthy heroes are not "sensed".

All carnivorous (carnivore deck) creatures gain "PREDATORY" as well. A carnivore should, naturally, be a better hunter than an herbivore, so should have a better chance of catching a nearby hero than it's herbivorous cousins.
During the creature movement phase a carnivore can +/- 1 to the red die result if it allows the creature to land on an adjacent tile containing a hero. For example, if a roll of "3" would normally cause a carnivore to land on an adjacent tile containing a hero, then a roll of "2,3,or 4" would land the carnivore with PREDATORY on the heroes' hex. If a roll of "4-6" would normally land a carnivore on a heroes' tile, then with PREDATORY a roll of "3,4,5,6,or 1" would land the creature with the hero. Likewise, a carnivore with "Flying" could +/- 1 to their flight path if it let them land on a heroes' tile.
If a creature with this ability could move onto more than one hex containing heroes, it would move to the hero with the most wound tokens on their hero sheet - if tied the players could choose which way the creature would move.

If you're finding the game too easy, perhaps give these ideas a try!
