And we've got a microbadge you can buy, if you want to show the world, that you participated in the 24 hour contest:

for creating the badge!

For no particular reason, this month's requirement will be:

Book

Remember: The requirement is just a requirement - not necessarily a theme! It's up to you, how you involve it in your game!

Happy designing and kind regards,
Kai

p.s.:

In the behaviour rules (see link to basic rules thread above) I've written:
Quote:
Please create a second posting in that thread to present your creation.

Please do present your game along with a short description in a posting. The reason I ask you to do this is simple: Creating geeklist entries becomes easier for me because from time to time copy-n-pasting from PDFs produces unexpected results (such as copying only odd symbols into the clipboard ..)
Thanks a lot

And if you'd like to spread the word of this contest, feel free to tweet about it:

Oooh, books.

I just spent my whole lunch hour at the library, going over the English book selection for some vacation staycation reading. A lot of "well, I want to read that, but it may be a little too deep for the moment", and "well, I could get this one book or several smaller books?", and "do I even have time to read these?"

I ended up with three books (Fevre Dream, Good Omens, and Nation), but what order should I read them???

So I think I'll try to make a game about creating an ideal book selection...

I have an idea for a book related game.
I almost started to work on it a few days ago, but didn't.
I think I can do it for this month's contest.
This month I will not wait till last minute, maybe this week.
Oh Yeah.

I really do want to do another one of these, so hopefully I'll find the time this month. I'm pondering...

Hotel or restaurant booking?
Booking bands to play at your venue?
Bookmakers at the horse races?
A book of matches?

Book... book... book...

Now, THAT would be a very creative interpretation of the requirement ...

Show me, what you've got, folks

If you go by odds, you are probably right, but I have time this month.
Out the the 42 games for the contest I think 4 or 5 of them I didn't do on the last day.

Let's see one from you Tome
Nice to see you in here!

I made it!

The Rulebook and PnP files for contest can be downloaded >> HERE <<.

I will upgrade the game resources and format the rules better and make them available later in separate PDF file, as well as printer-friendly version.

Need to say, this was both amazing and stresfull experience. After last month's fail I tried to make as much purely in-mind preparation so I was able to focus more on testing and production during last 24 hours. I hope that this solitaire / co-op game will find some fans.

Phew.

La Biblioteca de Babel

The universe in which you live, also known as the Library, consists of a vast number of hexagonal rooms containing every possible book. You belong to a sect of Librarians that believes there exists a book that is the key to understanding all other books in the Library. You further believe that there is one god-like man, The Man of the Book, who has read this book. A regressive method of finding him has been proposed, in which one book gives you a key to finding another book, which gives you a key to finding another book, and so on, eventually leading to the Secret Hexagon in which The Man of the Book is to be found. This book gives you the key to that method.

2-4 players. age 8+. 20-30 minutes.

a gank of bookworms tries to find out who is "the most bookworm" bookworm among them. then they agree to settle it in a book-eating competition.

this tile based games tested with 2 players. but i believe it goes alright with up to 4 players.happy playing

hungry bookworm

p.s: these rule & component files made entirely on mobile,

Book of Curses

As promissed, here you find final version of the game. I believe that final thoughts can be affected by visiting it, so unless you can be objective, don't check those files until contest is over.
For those, who want to check the final version with better graphics and opitmized rules, feel free to download the cards from here and rules from here.

Author's thoughts:
I have playtested it about 20 times solo and 8 times in 2-player setting. The game feels more like solitaire game, although the mechanics in multiplayer are the same. Surprisingly this feeling doesn't come from lack of player interaction, but from gameplay itself - when begining the game, the deck is often so messed up, you just say: "We are doomed." However, as the deck is being sorted, the stress goes away, because you can predict that you can manage to sort the book in time. If you want to make it more challenging, raise your stress level right from the beginning.

To sum it up, I find this game to be quite interesting replacement for i.e. Klondike and Spider Solitaire. Today I am going finally playtest it in higher player count, so I await more chaos during the whole course of the game. Report ongoing!

5-player report
As I notified, yesterday we had a runthrough with five players total. As I never playtested it in such count I was a quite affraid that the game will crash. However it didn't.
Thanks to low amount of actions there was no space for analysis-paralysis, although I felt that people were sometimes a bit put down because the list of actions was limited.
On the other side, turning the book's own weapons (expecially chained and recursive curses) against itself was quite fun. It was a neat filler game between Pandemic and Dead of Winter.

Hello! First time participant here. Actually, scratch that. First time board game designer here. My game will be called "Biblioclasm". It's about book burnings. So, a real fun romp. (Not really). I guess my time starts now!

Edit:sorry about the thick blue border. No idea why it's there! Also, I haven't set my time zone it seems. I am from India. It's 9:30 am here.

Don't worry about that, the site puts temporary coloured borders around new posts. When you subscribe to threads, you'll see red borders around unread posts.

Its done... Amazing experience....need sleep!

Game: Biblioclasm
For: 1-3 players
Description:
In Biblioclasm, up to 3 players take the role of young unarmed students. They must infiltrate a library where victorious enemy soldiers are burning books invaluable to their history and culture in order to humiliate their entire nation. They have to rescue a certain number of priceless tomes and escape to safety. It is a very fast paced game, with each game lasting no more than 10 minutes. However, it is meant to be tough, and players will lose most of the time, to reinforce the highly asymmetric nature of the conflict.

Rules and PnP components are in https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5t_JWklku-mUmZRZTJDZkFBN1...

I haven't printed the version I have on the PDF, only had pen and paper protos. So, for image, the best I can do is this

So.... uh, thanks!
