The combat chart on-map lists the D2 result as: 1-2 = De+AA, 3-6 = (A)+DR+AA.

But reading section 20.2 seems to say that should be 1-2 = De+AA, 3-6 = (A)+(D)+AA.

And there's a very similar issue with the D3 result on-map and in the rules.

The second option would seem to result in a more playable/balanced game is the map chart wrong?

Your reference doesn't seem to answer the question regarding 20.2 vs. the dug-in chart on the map. Am I missing something here?

OK, I found some different/additional errata for 20.2 here (even though the date is the same). This now seems to match what the map CRT shows.

20.2 Combat Results for Dug-In Defenders
(correction) The second listing for a "D2" result should be "D3." In each of D2 and D3, the third sentence should read, “… through “6”, the US loses a step and the Japanese redeploy (20.3). One US attacker may advance.”
