Hi,

I'm looking for a card game that as enough strategy to keep stategy board game fans like me interested, but not alot so that people who prefer easy and fun games also enjoy it. My best comparison would be exploiting kittens, which is the game we most often end up playing on game nights.

So i'm looking for a game that meets the following criteria:
1- plays with at least up to 5-6 players
2- just cards no game board
3- under 30mins to play a game
4- not too much strategy, but still enough to be interesting, i hate games when people can just do pretty much anything and still have a chance to win.
5- something with a similar feel to exploding kittens.(party game meets strategy game ?)

Thanks

I would suggest Sequence but it has a board. Otherwise you may want to try Dominion.

I would've recommended Diamonds but with 6 players it runs to nearly an hour of play time. Apart from the Exploding Kittens requirement, it matches the rest.

I've never played exploding kittens and nothing about it...

Bohnanza - if you have a little longer than 30 mins
Citadels - if you have a little longer (should be under an hour if you use these characters)
Clubs - 2-6p 30 mins climbing game.
Chwech - 6p trick taker (I've never played it but the I like the designer and it's on my list to play if I we ever have 6 and everyone wants to play a trick taker).

I don't know Exploding Kittens, but Parade can score your other criteria.

6 player Star Realms might be a possibility. There are several multiplayer scenaries. Free-for-all, team play, and one-vs-many. You'd need 3 decks of cards (one set per 2 players) but that they're not that expensive.

You can also mix it up with Colony Wars for more card variety. I'd go for two Star Realms decks and one Colony Wars.

Plus you can try the smartphone app version for free before diving into a committment.

I have a daily lunch group at work with players ranging from 5 to 8, so here are some of our faves:

Cockroach Poker: Play multiple times to see new strategies emerge and watch your group's meta evolve. Seems dumb, it isn't.

Bohnanza: Classic trading game.

Not Alone: All versus many. Nice tension.

7 Wonders: I love it.

Codenames

High Society: Caps at 5 IIRC, but phenomenal

Modern Art: Wait for the new CMON version, but this is my favorite auction game. Caps at 5.

Coloretto

Las Vegas: Dice, not cards but really great, light game with fun table talk.

Between Two Cities?
Drafting. Tiles instead of cards, so the box is bigger than a small box card game.
You build a city with the person on your right and one with the person on your left (at the same time).
Your score is the lowest of the two cities that you helped build.
The player with the highest score wins.

Or, for extremely quick that can accommodate a lot of people: Mascarade.
Small box card game (with tokens).
No card play, if that is why you want a card game.
Every player has a character with a special ability. Then the cards are turned face down.
You can exchange your character card with an other player (or pretend to).
Or you can claim to be a character and do their power, if no one responds that Y are that character (in that case you reveal cards and...)
It is from the designer of Citadels, and even if it is totally different, it feels something similar in the "character management" aspect... without the buildings that basically track points. In Mascarade you have coins, and the value of picking a character is termined by the ability and your small pile of coins. Same thing but much simpler.
I personally would avoid Citadels with more than four. With 6 people you are looking at a 2 hours game in my experience.
